U.S. expands airstrikes against Islamic State militants in northern Iraq

The reaction in the Iraqi capital was muted on Saturday after American warplanes and drones struck Islamist militants in the country’s north a day earlier, putting the U.S. military back in action in the skies over Iraq less than three years after the troops withdrew and President Obama declared the war over.

“America has abandoned us in our most difficult time,” said Firdous al-Awadi, a parliamentarian with Maliki’s political bloc. “This is too little, too late. We kept asking for airstrikes, but we got nothing. Now they are arming and protecting the Kurds, but the rest of Iraq gets no support.”

After weeks of appealing to the United States for arms and ammunition to help in the fight against militants, Kurdish officials expressed gratitude for the intervention.

“We never lost hope that our friends would come when the circumstances were there,” former Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari told reporters in Irbil.

The strikes were limited in scope

Symbolism over substance.

I’d much rather see us arm and equip the Peshmerga.

Ol’ Firdous al-Awadi doesn’t understand. There is no longer a state called Iraq.

The air strike was to assist the new Kurdish nation against the attacks of the new Isil nation.

Well, I’m simply supremely confident. After all, Obama said he is good at killing people. So kill away Obraham Hussein, kill away.

Say what you will about how we got here, but this is the FIRST TIME in DECADES that the United States has actually defended non-Muslims from Muslims, rather than the other way around (or just taking sides among various Muslim groups).

Obama is good at killing people, so:

Tra la la, tweedle dee dee dee
It gives me a thrill
To wake up in the morning
Watching Obama kill
Tra la la tweedle dee dee dee
No peace and good will
You're welcome as the missiles
During Obama kill.

Yeah, wait til the enemy gains ground, build up its strength, and kills untold numbers of innocents, and then you act?

Obama is nothing but an idiot.

Obama’s international policy m o, is to sit on the sidelines and wait until the pressure from the public or the media get to where he’s forced to act.
It’s never pro-active, it’s always delayed reactive and then trying to play catch-up.
I can’t believe that more high ranking military offcers & advisers haven’t retired or resigned in disgust.

Obama does NOT want to use force against his ISIS buddies. Especially if they are killing Christians. I bet they have a couple cases of TUMS on hand right now.

The moderate Muslims have an incentive not to protest too loudly. In the event that the militant Muslims win, they will tell the militants that they were down for the struggle all along. In the end, they will share in the glorious Caliphate, and they will have their slaves and harems.
