Square-foot mix: one-third potting soil, one-third spaghnum moss, one-third organic compost.
Thoroughbred horse manure, composted, is the best thing I ever used. I am in horse country and the stuff works so well, I have come home from work and found the tomato plants had lifted the cages out of the ground and fell over. God only knows how many different steroids and other chemicals I have indirectly ingested. True story.
