Newt Gingrich : Obama, Buchanan, and Baldwin -- The Cost of Rejecting Reality

=====================================================

Obama, Buchanan, and Baldwin: The Cost of Rejecting Reality

President Obama is in serious danger of joining a select group of disastrous leaders who put their people and their country in desperate circumstances that cost lives and risked ruinous defeat.

Newt Gingrich Podcast

Almost everywhere you look around the world, the situation is worse for the United States and worse for freedom than when President Obama took office—in many cases catastrophically so. There isn’t much sign that he recognizes this or is particularly concerned.

Iraq is the most obvious (and potentially most dangerous) example. The Washington Post clarified the stakes there in a report quoting Janine Davidson at the Council of Foreign Relations. Davidson noted that ISIS, the terrorist group that has taken over much of the Iraq, “now controls resources and territory unmatched in history of extremist organizations.”

The Post went on to quote the State Department’s deputy assistant secretary for Iraq and Iran, describing ISIS:

It’s “worse than al-Qaeda,” Brett McGurk…told lawmakers last month. It “is no longer simply a terrorist organization. It is now a full-blown army seeking to establish a self-governing state through the Tigris and Euphrates valley in what is now Syria and Iraq.”

Just this past January, President Obama dismissed this new threat "worse than al-Qaeda" with the trivializing quip: “The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant.”

Assuming the President was telling the truth, the White House analysis seven months ago was that ISIS was an irrelevant junior varsity split off from the really important al-Qaeda.

That would be a mistaken analysis of historic proportions. Yet it fits the continuing pattern of the State Department and the White House underestimating Boko Haram in Nigeria, the terrorists in Libya, the Taliban in Afghanistan (where an Afghan just killed an American major general, the highest ranking officer lost in the last 12 years of war), the Iranian nuclear program, the Iranian influence over Maliki in Iraq, the depth of Hamas's commitment to destroying Israel (killing every Jew as Hamas’s charter promises and as Hamas spokesmen have continued to suggest), etc. etc.

The Obama administration's Middle East confusion is matched by its misunderstanding of dictatorship in Venezuela, Putin's intentions around the Russian periphery, the growing North Korean weapons program, the growing Chinese aggressiveness in the South China Sea and with the Japanese. Again and again there is a growing gap between reality and the Obama Administration's analysis and plans.

Well-meaning but delusional governments can have catastrophic consequences and many people can die as a result of misinformed, overly positive, and or fantasy-driven leadership.

President James Buchanan simply couldn't bring himself to intervene to stop the South from arming itself, taking over federal armories and setting the stage for Civil War. He left the Union in much worse shape, made war much more likely, and is generally considered to be the most destructive president in American history.

Similarly, Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin lied to the British people about the German military buildup under Hitler. He knew the truth but was afraid of annoying the British voters by forcing them to confront the danger of war. He simply wasn’t truthful, as Churchill pointed out time and again in frustration. Chamberlain succeeded Baldwin and continued the process of ignoring the demonic evil in the Hitler dictatorship and trying desperately to cut a deal to protect Britain even at the cost of selling out Czechoslovakia.

President Obama should study carefully the costs of self-deception and weakness. He is in grave danger of leading us into a disaster on a scale that will be historic and will condemn him to be in the league of Buchanan and Baldwin.

That would be a horrifying legacy and a horrifyingly expensive result in both blood and pain.

Look at the facts as they are unfolding and decide for yourself if this analysis is too strong.

I fear the future will prove this analysis correct.

Newt

Newt is great. Perhaps one of the most observant and truthful politician of our times.

Too bad he doesn’t know when to shut his mouth or who to trust.

Thought Obama already accomplished that. Not sure he cares. His paradigm seems to be socialist revolution at all costs, down with American constitutional republic, the more chaos the better.

BTW, wonder if Gingrich still has POTUS aspirations (haven't heard from him for awhile but seems like POTUS aspirants are starting to come out of the woodwork).

Newt's a mixed bag. I think his greatest enemy is his own ego. Although that's probably true with most of us, a statesman is asking for the kind of trust that requires more character and selflessness than the average person. That's why we haven't seen another Reagan come down the pike the last 30 or so years. We need another Reagan now.

Well, God provided the first Reagan and He is able to provide another. May God bless America with just that. A successful Convention of States (the one proposed by Citizens for Self Governance) would help.

Secure federal armories or remove the weapons. Fire his Secretary of War who, it’s said, was selling and shipping guns south.

To ALL: Patton@Bastogne has spammed this forum with this material repeatedly. When challenged, he has failed repeatedly to refute a single one of the following sourced quotes from Newt Gingrich: “When I first ran for Congress I was the natural candidate of most environmental groups…” Newt Gingrich, “Winning The Future,” Page 168

“If the United States challenged Europe and Japan to join it in financing a world biodiversity refuge system and tied foreign aid into the process of maintaining biodiversity, we could probably save a very high percentage of the earth’s biological richness…” Newt Gingrich, “Winning The Future,” Pages 170-171

“As a young professor at West Georgia College, I taught in the second Earth Day in 1971 and coordinated an interdisciplinary environmental studies program.” Newt Gingrich, “Real Change,” Page 196

“That is why I worked so diligently as Speaker of the House to protect the Endangered Species Act, historic legislation that has been mired in controversy…The Endangered Species Act is an excellent example of the value of civility, consultation and collaboration.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages XII & 51

“For that reason, we have supported its (the Endangered Species Act’s) continuation against all challenges by private citizens, interest groups, and congressional opponents.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 53

“The U.S. government operates endowments for the humanities and the arts…Perhaps, it is time we consider a new endowment for conservation and the environment.” “Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages 115-116 [NOTE: As Speaker, Gingrich told conservatives he wanted to eliminate the wasteful National Endowment for the Arts. Now he cites it as an example of a government spending spree that needs to be duplicated.]

“Significant resources should be set aside to protect hallowed sites such as the Galapagos Islands, the Virguna Volcanoes in Central Africa, and Georgia’s Okenfenokee Swamp, to name a few.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 117

Where does that end?

"John Muir, for most of his adult life, experienced nature in spiritual overtones…He even favored using the armed forces to enforce environmental law…However, with the inexorable advance of the urban realm, the defense of forested land assumes a greater urgency as we strive to sustain the highest-quality standards for our nation’s air, water, and land.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 127

“Our national parks and wildlife reserves require more vigorous protection. With an eye toward strengthening his environmental legacy in the 2007 federal budget, President Bush requested the largest increase for national park funding in our nation’s history. We should expect nothing less than excellence from our national park system.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages 130-131

“Far from becoming a new source of global discord, environmentalism, which binds nations to a common concern, will be the best thing that’s ever happened to international relations.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Pages 149-150

“We will need to organize a series of high-level global conferences that focus on specific [environmental] problems…” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 158

“…the type of arduous research that produces real breakthroughs can only be funded by astute governments.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 167

“America used to be that kind of government [that spent millions of tax dollars on “energy research” welfare programs,] but our commitments have wavered in recent years so government incentives for energy research will be issues in future political campaigns.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 1 +667

“Mobilizing other countries to join us will not be as easy as it may appear. Many of the countries that signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol are lagging behind on their commitments.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 168

“The act [Endangered Species Act] has been, by any measure, a very successful guardian of wildlife and habitat and any attempt to weaken it should be resisted.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 170

“…our children, according to Louv, run the risk of acquiring ‘nature deficit disorder,’ a malady that he describes as a contributing factor to a recognized mental health construct, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Nature deficit disorder, not yet acknowledged by scientists or clinicians, is a working hypothesis that Louv believes helps to explain the onset of ADHD, and he proposes that exposure to nature should be offered as a therapy for children who have difficulty attending to stimuli and learning in conventional classrooms. His call for research in this domain is compelling.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 182

“Local governments operate much closer to the origin of environmental problems, and they have begun to provide tax incentives and large cash rewards for environmental compliance…While the motivation is driven by the application of tax dollars, the effect is rewarding rather than punitive…” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 194

“…our government, at all levels, must be modernized to successfully partner, let alone compete, with the private sector.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 196

“In spite of the demonstrated liberal leanings in academia, we have nothing but respect for the nation’s scientists. They represent America’s best hope to protect the environment. We support a dramatic increase in science and technology research and development because we desperately need to understand global climate change and other environmental phenomena.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 201

“Needless to say, an appropriate and significant investment of public and private funding to renew the earth will pay dividends.” Newt Gingrich, “A Contract With The Earth,” Page 202

These are Newt's words, not mine (with a hat tip to AuntB). I first posted them (to Patton@Bastogne) here, where he descends to name calling, slander, and baseless accusations unworthy of any FReeper. I warned him then that he would face these charges when he posts this material. I have no objection to anyone posting material in favor of any conservative. Yet when those positions come into conflict with others collinear with the base justifications for unconstitutional and socialist global governance, that evidence must be exposed and the support called into question. Unless there is a resolution of fact, then simply reposting that material constitutes spam, an attempt to load the sidebar and the first page with unanswered advertising in the hopes that FReepers won't read farther.

We went through hell and back on this forum with FairOpinion's use of that strategy during the recall election of Arnold Schwarzenegger, an event that I many FReepers who supported him regret deeply. Apparently, Patton@Bastogne thinks he can get away with the same strategy.

All of us owe a debt to Newt Gingrich for what he accomplished in the 1990s with regard to welfare reform. Yet when he presents himself as the voice of conservatism with a record like the above, one must question that record and his intents.

Jim, the answer to that question is up to you.

Yikes ... there's always the peanut gallery to contend with ...

Neither of you gentlemen have accomplished any of these feats:

1) Lead America to elect a Republican-controlled U.S. Congress after forty (40) years of corrupt Democratic Party control.

2) Either envision or "get passed" and "signed into law" by a (fiercely) Democratic president such as Bill Clinton.

3) Successfully teach history at the U.S. Army War College.

4) "Win" the 2012 South Carolina Republican Presidential Primary ... overcoming MILLIONS spent by the "bastard" Mitt Romney.

5) Campaign as the genuine "Last Conservative Standing" during the 2012 Republican Presidential Primary campaigns.

6) Deliver "any" of the incredibly "knowledgeable" campaign speeches (listed above) "at any time of your lives".

7) "Earn" the respected political endorsement of Free Republic's founder Jim Robinson during the 2012 Republican Presidential Primaries (reference the above chart created by Jim Robinson).

Ergo, "gentlemen" ... I postulate that your "rabid dog" attacks against Newt Gingrich are in-fact driven by your own envy and jealousy over Newt Gingrich's historic accomplishments ....

versus your own (relatively) miniscule political achievements that have moved the American Conservative political agenda "forward".

Honestly, you're both failing in these public embarrassments to "punch above your weight".

Perhaps you might find your time better served to studying U.S. History, writing college textbooks, and TRYING to get a job (anywhere) teaching said subject matter.

Until then ... or even until you've accomplished one-twentieth (1/20) of what Newt Gingrich has, may I gently suggest that you stop these childish display of envy and resentment against a man FAR more accomplished than "both" of you combined.

Newt Gingrich vis-a-via Nancy Pelosi, Carbon Trading, Global Warming (2008) : A Critical Examination of News Media Myths

Primary Author : Free Republic's "Cute Puppy" : 2014-07-26

=============================================

Conservatives have questioned Newt Gingrich's action and words with statements such as these:

Newt is a fan of carbon trading, the source of cash flow for global governance under the UN.

How could Newt, “make the biggest mistake of his life.” ??? Is or was he a naïve child, overwhelmed by wolves of disinformation?

Not only because of his personal life, but because of that global warming ad with him and Nancy Pelosi on a loveseat telling us how important it is to tax us into penury in order to stop the make-believe global warming bogey man.

Actually, oversimplified and not quite accurate description of what happened.

Newt is often “lost in translarion” and quite often “cuts his losses”;

does not bother to waste time explaining to those who don’t understand or are “invested in not understanding”

what he says or does; which in politics could be.

What really happened is much more prosaic, but does explain Newt's “the dumbest thing I’ve done in recent years” statement ...

which refers not to Newt's attempt to wrest the “green” / “environmental” issues from near-exclusive province of Democratic Party,

but to the political aftermath of the ad photo repeatedly posted as the “proof” that he is the AGW Global Warming advocate and believer.

In politics, taking chances to do something productive rather than just talking party line is seldom rewarded.

From Pelosi Fires back at Gingrich - FR, post #9, by untwist, 2014 January 08

..... Newt made a mistake sitting down with Nancy, but he never bought into the Pelosi / Obama Cap and Trade model.

The leftist model was based on huge penalties and bankrupting localities with taxes if they do not move on the federal govt’s demands.

Gingrich favored a business incentive, tax-break driven model for companies that invest in green energy.

He was snookered by the left who wanted to use him for leverage to push their wild plans. He agreed in principle to invest in alternative energy.

He never was in line with Pelosi’s model for strong-handed leftist coercion. This is what has not been explained properly.

From Pelosi Fires back at Gingrich - Free Republic, post #27; 2014 January 08

..... Newt keeps trying to co-opt the “green movement” so it would become easier to promote more of real “alternative” sources of energy (like nuclear) instead of cap-and-trade and “carbon taxes.” Co-opt the “green” movement and propose investing in cheaper and cleaner domestic sources of energy, contrast it with the pain of expense, scarcity and loss of mobility and freedom of Gore / Pelosi / Kerry liberal “solutions”

and then the real goals of phony “green environmentalists” - money from taxes and expensive wind/solar energy - are gone ... and with the money, a movement itself will fail or join Republicans.

Defunding by co-opting (instead of “cooperating” with them in their goals) was the real goal of Newt getting into the arena .....< snip>

..... Meanwhile, Gingrich’s staff balked at what Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection wanted the former speaker to say in the ad.

They refused to clear the words “crisis” to describe climate change or for him to say; “We need new laws”; to address it .....< snip> ..... “

We rejected the initial script because it stated positions that we just didn’t believe were true,” said Tyler. “They wanted Newt to basically talk about global warming, which we would not do.

At the time, ‘climate change’ was seen as a safe thing to say.” .....< snip>

About a month after the commercial began airing, Gingrich’s now defunct political action group, American Solutions for Winning the Future, began its own advertising campaign; a pro- oil “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less,” mantra

aimed at blocking legislation co-sponsored by Senators Joseph I. Lieberman, a Connecticut independent, and John Warner, a Virginia Republican, to combat climate change by curbing carbon emissions......< snip>

Other facts debunking the multitude of myths about Gingrich are in these links / references, for those who are really interested, so here are some myth-busters (some posts contain links and references within them, so please forgive repetition) :

Yikes ... there's always the peanut gallery to contend with ...

You knew it was coming because I warned you it would.

Neither of you gentlemen have accomplished any of these feats:

When you have given up 17 years of your life and well over $2,000,000 in lost income in order to take on the most powerful and corrupt people on earth, when you've invented a means to cut the legs out from under them, when you've risked the safety of yourself and your family, I would give at least some heed to your epithets but for this:

The carbon dioxide ruse is the overt and admitted funding mechanism for anti-constitutional global government. Newt has come out in favor of some form of carbon regulation including cap and trade, his later protestations to the contrary. That renders two possibilities: he either knows what he is doing and is a stealth communist OR he is ignorant of the reality of the global warming scam and is willing to cave on this issue to the very people who seek to take this nation down.

Take your pick sirrah.
