Obamacare: HuffPo Writer Whines GOP Won't 'Fix' Law to Allow Federal Exchange Subsidies

Jeffrey Young is a health care writer for the Huffington Post but you really have to wonder if he is posting his stories from Bizarro World. He is actually upset that Republicans in Congress, in the wake of the Halbig vs Burwell D.C. Circuit Court decision, won't join together with the Democrats in a giant kumbaya to "fix" the highly unpopular Obamacare law so that the language will clearly state that states using the federal exchange will be eligible for subsidies.

What is interesting is how liberals until about a week ago derided the idea that the language of the Obamacare law only allowed subsidies to go to state-based exchanges. However, this has drastically changed. Not only due to court decision but also because two of the biggest Obamacare cheerleaders who mocked the notion of Congress really intending what was clearly  written in the law, Jonathan Gruber and Jonathan Cohn, were discovered to have in the past supported that very "Truther" position. So here we have Young bemoaning the fact that those "stubborn" Republicans won't save an unpopular liberal law:

Liberals want Republicans to geld themselves and then join hands with Democrats in a giant kumbaya to "fix" the Obamacare that was shoved thru Congress without any GOP input allowed.

The idiot Dems had to vote for the law to find out what was in it.

It was in there to force the states to "voluntarily" join the system. The Dems would have had no problems at all using that same clause to deny the subsidies to three or four red states that didn't form their own exchanges. But since thirty some state refused and just pushed it back to the feds, they Dems can't dare to deny subsidies to all of them without risking an even greater desire among the voters to eliminate the entire system.

This is no surprise and it is fully expected, they accept no responsibility and the admit nothing, lie about most things, and deny everything.

This should be clear and if it is not clear then let's make it clear.

Democrats own Obamacare lock, stock, and barrel. There is not a single Republican fingerprint on any of its thousands of pages and Obama's arm waving and finger snapping orders.

That’s not quite accurate. Some of the blue states were just too incompetent to build their own. :)

Sorry, it’s the law of the land now. After all, isn’t that all we hear about Obamacare?

Gee, shove some unread legislation down people’s throats, lie about what it will do, bungle the implementation, constantly make unilateral changes without their consent, and then act shocked when they refuse to help you fix it.

Net net, the subsidies less the employer mandates in non-state exchange states would add about 700 billion to $1 Trillion dollars to the federal deficit over the next ten years. It’s not just a little fix that R’s are being picky about. The only thing that surprises me is that house leadership isn’t scrambling to cooperate in this huge new spending package.

The good news is, when you chose to make a career out of being “a health care writer” for the Huffing and Puffing Post, you have no where else to go but up!

If it gets to the SCOTUS, Roberts may rule that the Dems really meant to include the federal exchanges in the subsidies. Then we’ll know he’s being blackmailed by Obama.

Why should the Republicans fix something they did not break.

Nothing is broken.

It's what is in it that finally got read after it was passed without a single Republican voting for it.

They need to whine to Nancy.
