Terror study group finds “sovereign citizens”, “militia/patriot groups” among greatest threat to US

The nation’s law enforcement agencies, from local cops all the way to the Department of Homeland Security, are always on the lookout for terrorist threats, and that includes at home as well as in far flung deserts and mountains. And they’re collecting data on all sorts of groups. What may come as a surprise is that, if you’re a regular reader of Hot Air or many other similar outlets, you might be one of the people they are watching! A new report this summer from a group of university analysts has identified the chief concerns of law enforcement agents at all levels, and some of them might surprise you. (A hat tip for locating this report goes to Crooks and Liars who apparently discovered it.)

First, law enforcement perceptions about what is a serious threat in their community has changed significantly over time. Law enforcement is much more concerned about sovereign citizens, Islamic extremists, and militia/patriot group members compared to the fringe groups of the far right, including Christian Identity believers, reconstructed traditionalists (i.e., Odinists), idiosyncratic sectarians (i.e., survivalists), and members of doomsday cults. In fact, sovereign citizens were the top concern of law enforcement, but the concern about whether most groups were a serious terrorist threat actually declined for most groups (e.g., the KKK; Christian Identity; Neo-Nazis; Racist Skinheads; Extremist Environmentalists; Extreme Animal Rights Extremists).

Wow. There’s a lot to wrap your head around just in that one paragraph from the Executive Summary portion of the report. It would seem that militia/patriot groups are up on the top shelf with Islamic extremists. Also interesting are the groups who are identified as “fringe” while not getting top billing. Who knew that Christian Identity believers made the cut?

"What is a “sovereign citizen”?" A sovereign citizen is a person who believes that the original intent of the Constitution is the law of the land not the Unconstitutional additions like the income tax, Obamacare (Ruled to be Constitutional by the SCOTUS) etc.

But of course a government that doesn't protect the states from invasion, that spends it's populace into oblivion, and thumbs it's nose at the U. S. Constitution, and insults it's most reasoned patriots is not a threat at all.

The U.S. Government is ignoring actual terrorist in favor of the only people the Democrats regard as politically threatening. You see this is why I have a hard time getting all worked up about the Boston and New York attacks.

Theses are the people Boston and New York overwhelmingly voted and campaigned for. I’d be a lot more angry at the injustice if Islamic terrorist decided to attack some rural american community.

Yea its terrible and unjust either way, but seriously if your going to spend all your time and energy congesting up reasons to attack people who primarily just offend you ideologically. Then yes its harder to feel sorry for you when you get attacked by the real world.

Indeed sooner or later your going to so offend those ideological rivals that you might just end up with genuine threat on both sides.

I actually saw a group of Amish on Friday in the parking lot of our Walmart.

I wonder if they are related to Odinists?

In any event, the hair didn’t stand up on the back of my neck and I walked fairly closely by them.

Can’t argue with you.

If you were an enemy of the United States, could you come up with a better crew of wreckers? I doubt it.

I don’t think so. Imho, this was also all premeditated.

I agree. Soros, Ayers, Fahrakan, these guys and their fellow travelers must have been dumbfounded when this guy was actually voted in. Never in their wildest dreams...

The biggest threats to this country are our open border and the hordes of illegal aliens roaming across the land. Incredible that this segment of riff-raffs, perverts, and terrorists are seen as above the laws, even rewarded for breaking our laws. We taxpayers have to work hard to provide them with welfare and other perks.

Agreed...

When you think of it, Hillary’s “It Takes a Villiage” lays down a premise that each member of our community is responsible for helping children to grow up to be good people.

Take a look at the Democrat Presidents, and what they championed for our children. JFK, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and now Barack Obama, have been chilling if you look at what they’ve actually done.

Kennedy played around on his wife and children. It was so well known that when little Billy Clinton when to the White House to meet him, he modeled his treatment of women after him.

Jimmy Carter, Mr. Bible School Teacher talked of lusting in his heart, in his “PLAYBOY” interview. Think young men didn’t hear about that?

Now we have a man who may be a recruiter for another team.

You just have to wonder how bad it would have to be, for the Left to simply think to themselves, “I’ve had enough! I can’t support this any longer.” Well, evidently this guy isn’t that bad. And if not, what would a guy have to do for the Left to wake up?

Take a look at Nixon, Ford, Bush I, Bush II, no matter what you thought of their politics, at least they cared for their wives, and this showed that they cared for their children as well.

Does anyone actually buy that the above democrats cared for their children? Heck, they didn’t even care for their wives.

Young men out there in our village, turn your head away. These men and their actions are not for you to emulate, no matter how much the MSM and people like Clinton tell you they are.

Your village can’t overcome what your dad has done to you.

Hillary? No thanks. We’ve had enough examples for the youts.

They missed the breakdown of TO WHOM THE GROUPS ARE A DANGER. The Islamic terrorists are a danger to anyone who is not one of them, or is the wrong kind of them, or is unwilling to be ruled by them.

The Patriots (and related groups, excluding @holes like the Klan, Neo-Nazis and Racist Skinheads) are only a danger to an out-of-control regime.

I wish that I knew the answer to that question. I've just about given up on them. It seems that most of the criticisms of this president have been that he hasn't done enough damage to our country.

In all fairness, those who find patriot organizations threatening should perhaps feel that way.

Anybody who is a “sovereign citizen” has to explain what he is a citizen of. Himself? that makes no sense.
Is he saying that he is not an American citizen? If so, then he should leave and go to North Korea.

sovereign citizens are anarchists who pretend to be conservative and think they shouldn’t have to pay taxes.

Yes, those professors know where their bread is buttered.
Profiling is so wrong, unless it is white Christians that are being profiled.

Right wing Christians were responsible for the DC sniper attacks.
They brought down the WTC.
Blew up the Boston Marathon.
etc.

Help me out here, didn’t Eric the Red Holder take over and occupy, with violence, a university campus building for a few days. Is that domestic terrorism?

Not only is the 0bama regime lawless, they are trying to incite insurrection.
