A teenage girl was raped at the same Keith Urban show where 20 people got so drunk they were hospitalized, police said. The attack happened in front of a large crowd of other concertgoers on the lawn of the Xfinity Center, an outdoor amphitheater in Mansfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday night, a police statement said.

The rape ended when a woman in the crowd pushed the alleged attacker off the victim and he fled, police said.

There was a day if, and that’s a big if, if such a thing happened, the crowd would’ve eagerly intervened. The ‘do nothing’ part would’ve been when the cops asked if anyone say the murder occur.

This is the end result of a society that continually tells kids to be passive, to not assert themselves, to not take a stand and be individually responsible for themselves and their communities. Its the same reason why mass groups of people sit passively when two or three terrorists hijack an airplane. If you ask them, they will say that the rape was wrong. But that does not trigger a response in their heads that they should stop it.

I don’t think cultural passivity is the problem, compared to when, 20 years ago, 50 years ago ? There was no intervention in the crowd most likely because most people assumed it was a consensual act.

If this is a country performer (I don't know, I don't listen to it), ordinarily we would expect the audience to reflect the values of this genre which traditionally would be something Freepers might endorse.

I readily admit to knowing nothing about this but we're engaging in a liberal versus conservative culture and blaming these actions on the fact that this occurred in Mass.

It's sad that concerts aren't what they used to be. Time was you could have a fun tailgate beforehand, then go inside the venue and watch the show. Now, people throw beer cans in the toilets, dump trash everywhere, get wasted, start fights, injure themselves and others. I walk with a cane, and I've had people shove me aside because I was walking too slowly. At one concert, a woman took it upon herself to start dancing in front of wheelchair-bound concertgoers, blocking their view. Security at most shows is practically non-existent. And it doesn't matter what type of music — country, rock, rap, whatever — people act like savages.

I used to go to several concerts every year. This year, only one. I can't take the ignorant behavior of most attendees.

They probably all voted for Obama.

We have an annual Country Concert here. Top performers, great music. However, I quit going, not because of the music but because of the crowd. Too much raunchy behavior. I don't know what's got into people. Even twenty years ago, when I first started going to that concert, this kind of behavior didn't exist. It was basically a bunch of nice people, having a good time and listening to the music. Not any longer, though.
