A German Army General has been appointed to Chief of Staff of U.S. Army Europe. This is the first time a non-U.S. officer has held this position.

We are up to almost one hundred comments and not a single poster has corrected the blatant errors in the conversation.

This officer is being appointed as the Chief of Staff of U.S. Army Europe in Wiesbaden, not as Chief of Staff of the Army. U.S. Army Europe today is a three star position, and the Chief of Staff is a Brigadier General, which is good, because that’s this German officers rank. As the title implies, the Chief of Staff runs the staff, the Commanding General and Deputy Commanding General have the command authority.

The U.S. Army has done this for years with the Canadian and British Armies, and we are doing it now with the Australian Army. This is a logical extension of what has been going on for years and is quite common in Afghanistan as it was in Irag. We operate together, it’s useful for our allies to know how we operate.

Perhaps the posters on this thread ought to go to Stub Hub and see if they can get tickets to a game tonight. Have a beer, eat a dog, enjoy. This is no big deal.

No “hope”, fundamental “change”.

Thanks for your input. I don’t know if this means nothing or something, but, this is a “first” and we know how this Administration is all about “firsts”.

From an employment view, there are officers currently in the Middle East deployment (and around the world) getting PINK Slipped. Why not employ an American Army Officer?

I agree that the forces need cooperation.

This is who he is assisting.

Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell Jr. is the Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe, headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany.

The description of the position, from the article in Army Times, is this: chief of staff of U. S. Army Europe, will be stationed at USAREUR headquarters, Wiesbaden, Germany. Assisting USAREUR commander Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell. I believe the USAREUR stands for United States Army Europe and it’s headquarters is in Wiesbaden.

Bio of the Lt. General:
Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell Jr. is the Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe, headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany.

From the Army.mil site, Lt. General Campbell’s speech on, “Strategic Priorities — A Globally Responsive and Regionally Engaged Army”
“...
First, let’s review our globally responsive force. As we downsize, transition, and then sustain a smaller, but ready and capable Total Army, we can more efficiently provide joint and combined forces with expeditionary and enduring land power for the range of military operations. This then allows us to feature unique competencies such as operational leadership, mobility, command and control, and theater logistics at all echelons....”

When I was at I Corps (ROK/US) Group, a similar organization, the commander was American, his deputy was Korean, the chief-of-staff was American, the G staff were all Korean colonels with American deputies, etc. Pretty standard stuff in a joint command.

All of Eisenhower’s immediate subordinates (commanding land, sea and air), as well as Deputy Supreme commander were Brits, in consolation for the fact that the overall Supreme Commander was American.

not read the article yet , but I ma guessing this person is either a cross dresser or a homosexual.
If I am right then I am not surprised at all due to bozo and his homo loving agenda.

Not pay back per say, but certainly hypocrisy, because we know German banks do not like the free market and are always counting on the German State for protection.

Can’t fund much about him yet.

Did find a message (speech) that his new boss gave to his “soldiers” about the new downsizing Army and how to stay employed in the Army for a career. His answer was, don’t give them a reason to “cut you”. I suppose that means, don’t express personal beliefs about: religion and anti-LGBTQ.

It is interesting. If not a big deal, why the hype? I still don’t understand not giving this position to an Army officer.

Our military needs troops who will fire, and order others to fire on Americans.
Real Americans cannot be counted on to kill their own.

What's the big deal?
