Aw. Poor mom. I also remember the days before bucket seats - when all the kids would pile in the front seat with mother at the wheel. In those days, kids hated sitting in the backseat...because it was hot.

I also remember a time when mothers would drop off kids to school wearing only their nightgowns. There’s an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show where this happens.

In the old days, for the old 2-door 1955 Chevy, my dad made a wooden car seat for the baby and all of us other kids had to sit squished in the back seat.

Get rid of the backseat car seats and get the kiddies up front and see these deaths go down.

Eliminate one risk, more serious injuries and death to a child in a car seat in the front due to airbags and the dash and push the risk elsewhere. I had two children who because of work schedule I transported at least half the time, now I had forgotten articles such as diaper bags or clothing, but I never ever forgot my children.

There are people who go out and kill someone with a baseball bat and aren’t charged with first degree murder.

So, get rid of the airbags. Life is risk, you know.

I think my mother just laid the babies on the front seat! Of course, in those days mothers weren’t so helicopterish. Especially after the 4th or 5th one.

Meant to say manslaughter or negligent homicide. Got finger-tied.

Exactly.

The front passenger side airbags that are now mandated in every new car make front seat child seat use a death trap.

Here’s an idea (as you implied but I will be more blunt): if every person was an actual parent to their child and thought of their children first and not themselves, “tragic accidents” such as this would never happen.

It’s just that simple.

I mean honestly, what kind of person “forgets” they have a child, a CHILD, even if it’s in the back seat, for TWO HOURS!?

A person either high on drugs or an evil selfish person, or both. That’s who. Neither of which are proper defenses to murder.

I used to stand up on the floor between the front seat and dash of an early 60’s Galaxie 500. I lived.

Parents should be able to put their babies in the front seat. Before airbags babies did not die in hot cars.It doesn't take much of an impact at all to deploy an airbag. A little fender-bender will do it. Far more children would die as a result than die because they were left in the back seat.

No, the laws about keeping them in the back only provided an excuse for murder. But I never forgot a child, you never forgot one, and it's starting to look as though states' attorneys are not buying this excuse anymore.

I may be mistaken, but I believe this is considered risen to the level of “first degree” because the death was a result of the commission of another crime, here, illegal drug use.

I could be wrong.

Then there’s no disincentive for overcharging. If I were on the jury in such a state and thought that the prosecutor had intentionally overcharged to play the odds, I’d create one. I’d vote to either convict of less than what I thought he was guilty of, or to acquit completely.

Now that I think about it, I can remember my mother screaming SIT DOWN! We all lived.

The much larger decrease in risk A (crash deaths) far offsets the minor increase in risk B (hot car deaths).

Well, as I’m learning since like most freepers I didn’t bother to read the article is that we have two incredibly ditzy queens who took drugs and adopted kiddies to get money from the state. Recipe for disaster, ya think? Can’t wait for the social workers’ testimony during this trial!

That being said, I am still against laws forcing kiddies into the back seat and I’m still against horrible airbags.

I also hate air bags. A good friend of mine - a 5’4” woman - got burned horribly when she was in an accident at the wheel of her car. No one mentions how hot those bags are.

My old momma was in a water rehab class with a bunch of other old ladies. One day an 85 year old gal said to the class, guess what I have? Black boobies. She pulled aside her swimsuit and had a horrible bruise from neck to navel from her Caddy airbag.

No, that one was in Atlanta, Georgia.

And those parents were a man and his wife.

This murderer is living with another individual who has same-sex-attraction disorder.

Ouch! At 85, she’s lucky she didn’t have some broken ribs or something more serious to go with her bruise(s).
