none of this is especially important. Regardless of whether they are number 1,2, or 3, they are still in a position to threaten dollar hegemony and I have to conclude that Obama’s anti-Putin rhetoric reflects this realization especially in light of the extremes we have gone to in the past to prevent lesser OPEC nations from trading their petroleum products for currencies other than dollars.

True...even one is too many for me, but the support seems to be waning.
I thing initially, the support from a lot of them came as a (anti-Obama) play that made sense to them. After all, Putin seems to care about his borders, curtails most all social movements like the “Gay” business, Certainly does not allow the Muslims to gain much power.
So to some of them, Putin is good role model, but unfortunately for them, they don’t see that he a authoritarian fascist akin to the Mussolini government.
They also don’t seem to understand that he’s a product of the times after the fall of Communism and the USSR.
For all those reasons and more they should temper their enthusiasm as it applies to Putin and Russia where once again they are creating a Sino-Russian, as opposed to the Sino-Soviet pact against the US. It’s a sign that nothing has changed but the “name and description”.
Just goes to show you how people allow themselves to be manipulated, simply to oppose Obama.

I agree. Most of the support for Putin has to do with the way he stands up to Obama and usually wins. We don’t have Reps doing something similar. Still, Obama may lose to Putin, but the reality is that America loses as well. I take no satisfaction from Obama’s humiliation by Putin.

I want him to lose, in terms of his plan to remake the US into another Marxist crud hole. I certainly don’t want the Russians and their Chinese geopolitical partners to score a major victory in the US.
Unfortunately, while we debate this side issue, they are, I believe, scoring that victory as we speak, with the tacit approval of Obama and his ilk.
We are being destabilized and it’s not all because of Obama, but it’s Obama’s weaknesses that they are most definitely exploiting right now.
If I were them, I would do it too...If the goal was to reduce us to a broke, insignificant former global power in the same way as The Brits, Italy (Rome), France, the Portuguese, and the Greeks. and I suppose I should add Nazi Germany.
Once it’s even half done, they can do as they please, as can anyone else.
Why is anyone surprised?
It’s a straw man argument. It doesn’t matter who is first, second, or third when the overall difference in production is negligible. What’s more, Russia is allied with other OPEC nations, like Iran who are also interested in killing the petrodollar or, at the very least, holding it hostage.

The Iranians are the Saudis archenemies. If Iran ever acquires nuclear weapons, you can expect the Saudis to do likewise. Remember when the Saudis acquired the IRBMs from the Chinese?

You are the one sounding like Baghdad Bob. Get a grasp on reality. When the global economy turns bad, there is a flight of money to the US, the last safe haven. Germany and some other EU countries now have negative interest rates. You pay the banks to hold your money.
It’s not so much a statement of how desperate Russia is so much as it is a statement of the fact that Russia can pretty much tell how far the U.S. will reach. Russia’s got plenty of nuclear deterrence to limit the U.S. aggression. Putin is a man who likes to push limits, especially diplomatically.
To get an idea of why Putin isn’t scared is like saying that you’re someone stuck with people who you know really HATE YOU. The majority of the Russian people will most likely maintain their popularity with Putin, given the situation from a Russian perspective. Obama, IMHO, sounds pissed that he got called out on Syrian intervention by Putin.
And that machine is not a natural development in the press. All you have to do is look at the press to know that they couldn't organize more than a drink, a golf game or a date with a sexual partner. The news is written for them and travel is arranged. There is a "Ministry of Truth".
