So in other words a virulent virus with a death rate of 50-90% (with first rate healthcare) is nothing to worry about in your opinion.

Got it.

My “estimate” is that it isn’t an “end of the world” disease, that it won’t result in an “apocalypse” scenario for America.

If you think that is underestimating it, then we will just have to wait and see, if it becomes the end of the world EMP type road warrior scenario that you seem to want to argue, then my preps will still apply.

It’s actually a 21d incubation period and they’ve found live virus in male secretions up to 7 weeks after someone has been declared ‘recovered’.

The ‘all clear’ for an ebola outbreak is 42d w/o any new cases.

Just sayin’.

The expectation is it is either here or coming here soon.

And maybe that's why Obama is spreading illegals throughout the country by flying them to different cities. Just setting his master plan into motion.

....and being sure to use "public" transportation.

Notice that picture (getty so can't post) with the caption that the doctors are wearing masks and warning signs has what appears to be a missionary worker (cross on t-shirt) without a mask, gloves or anything. I seriously doubt that a nose and mouth mask would stop ebola from a sneeze, cough or spewing vomit. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't instill much confidence in them containing the virus.

Can you imagine what Ebola would do to the LGBT community? Getting married would be the least of their worries.

That "marriage" thing would fast become yesterday's news. Proof there's a silver lining in every cloud.

Just in time for the start of the new school year. No one is immediately going to think ebola when a kid up chucks in the school nurse's office.

About the naturalized American doctor, Stewart, who died, for a doctor well versed in the symptoms of ebola, he wasn’t very smart. Or was he? Flights from Nigeria to Lagos take 2 1/2 hours. At the end of the flight, he was so sick he collapsed at the airport. You can NOT tell me he didn’t know he was infected when he boarded the flight. Was he in severe denial and that stupid or was he intentionally wanting to spread it?

Patrick Sawyer wasn’t a doctor. He was a finance minister whose sister died of the disease a few weeks ago. He was counseled by medical authorities on the symptoms/signs of ebola infection and got on the flights anyway.

Given that he was a government official I wonder if part of it was the ‘don’t you know who I am’ syndrome.

Droplet distance is ~3ft.

Aerosol is another matter.

I wanted to read “The Hot Zone” when it came out 20 years ago, but never got around to it. Just bought a used copy on Amazon. I’m sure it’s going to be a major downer with the escape of the Ebola virus from the wilds of Africa. This does not look good for the human race at all.

Sawyer was caring for his sister who he thought had cholera. He did not take the needed precautions for ebola.

Now there’s a good reason to declare Martial Law, Ebola.

Just what my husband and I were thinking last night as we discussed what to bulk order on Amazon.

And how the heck are national guard qualified to test people anyway?

This disease is spread by contact with blood, semen and stools.

You left out a few...

Sweat

Saliva (including aerosolized sputum)

Tears.

Contact with dead bodies.

Contact with sufaces the patient shedding virii has made contact with. One small opening or transferring the virus from a contaminated surface to the eyes, mouth, or nose with fingers...

If you don't get over the idea that it is as hard (relatively speaking) to catch as AIDS (or as limited in scope) you may be placing yourself at risk in the event of an outbreak.

Please, for your sake and that of those around you, get all the information.

It is present in sweat and can live for several days in dried material on a surface.

sorry to burst your bubble, but snot is a bodily fluid. If someone coughs or sneezes directly on you, or you come in contact with the snot they just blew all over the seat you just sat in, you can contract ebola. The real problem with ebola is it causes the victims to bleed and leak body fluids everywhere. Trained professionals in full gear are now coming down with the disease. Think again about transmission

With you all the way. Just read that it is present in sweat and can live for several days in dried material on a surface.

What's more, as a lab professional in healthcare I have been personally stunned by the pics of those working with ebola patients and the level of PPE they are using, and still dying and coming down with it in record numbers - compared to past outbreaks.
