Court Says 'Shoot It Out': Eugene Robinson's Twisted Take on DC Ruling Upholding 2nd Amendment
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Everyone knows how safe the streets of Washington, DC are [where as of 2010 violent crime was three times the national average], and how DC criminals scrupulously respect the District's very restrictive gun-control laws. So of course the last thing you would want is to permit law-abiding citizens to exercise their Constitutional rights to keep and bear arms. Why, that would only lead to the Gunfight at the DC Corral. No, better to keep all the guns in the hands of criminals.

Such seems to be Eugene Robinson's logic. On today's Morning Joe, the Washington Post columnist bemoaned a federal judge's ruling that DC's total ban on public carry is unconstitutional. According to Robinson, "Congress and the courts are essentially saying no, go ahead, shoot it out."

Eugene is just upset that White folk (and others) in DC can now protect themselves.

We’ve been going through the same thing here in Florida since St. Skittles got himself plugged.

This guy needs to get a few pizza analogies together and he can be fast-tracked to becoming a Federal Judge...

People like Robinson live within a fantasy world in their minds. If the Government can only pass one more law the world will be rainbows and unicorns! If the little people will only listen to us and obey us their lives would be so much better.
These folks are isolated from the real world and have no clue what an everyday life for a regular person is like.

The average legal gun owner buys a gun; goes to a range or other place to practice; learns gun safety and the local hunting laws and is responsible for his actions. The average criminal gun owner gets an illegal gun or steals a gun, never goes to a range or learns how to handle the gun safely. In a gun fight, he is usually, but not always, the one laying on the ground bleeding.
So “Shoot It Out” is OK with me; I’ve been in a war zone and been shot at by people with more training and moral convictions than the thugs and malcontents that constitute the criminal element.

Once again, time for Heinlein:

Gunfight at the DC corral? What is DC now? Eugene thinks that if guns are in the hands of sane citizens, they’ll be more crime. Instead, they’ll be LEAS crime.

FYI folks...3 things to keep in mind:
1. All black folks do NOT think alike.
2. Eugene Robinson does not represent the view of all black people.
3. Most black folks are NOT anti-gun (note the last 2 amendment case to be won in the supreme court. The plaintiff was a black man from chicago)

Gene Gene The Talking Points Machine.

There's a city alderman getting roasted on local DC radio right now, but he let a little something slip. The show is Mornings On The Mall on WMAL if you want to check the podcast later, 7/29 show in the 8:00 AM hour.

I'll paraphrase what I remember from the live stream... he gave a case like "Let's say somebody robs you with a gun and the police catch him. Instead of being able to charge him immediately with a felony for possession of a gun, they can only charge him with a misdemeanor."

What the hell does that even mean? Is that an admission that they just want to be pass enough laws to be able to selectively arrest people they don't like the looks of, instead of, oh I don't know, gathering evidence and making arrests?

Of course it is. From Barqi on down, the pols want vastly over-reaching laws, to make it all the easier to abuse to further political ends. It's already happening. As Mao noted, political power flows from the barrel of a gun.

The role of the constabulary is law enforcement, Gene, you ninny. It's not prevention, it's enforcement. The prevention of crime is a responsibility of the citizen; punishment of crime is a responsibility of the state. Criminalizing the natural rights of the general populace is the soul of the Police State you dearly aspire to.

My guess is that Gene is also ... armed.

Just like that other WaPo columnist years ag who was completely anti-gun, then used his own personal handgun to blow away a home invader.
