There's a city alderman getting roasted on local DC radio right now, but he let a little something slip. The show is Mornings On The Mall on WMAL if you want to check the podcast later, 7/29 show in the 8:00 AM hour.
I'll paraphrase what I remember from the live stream... he gave a case like "Let's say somebody robs you with a gun and the police catch him. Instead of being able to charge him immediately with a felony for possession of a gun, they can only charge him with a misdemeanor."
What the hell does that even mean? Is that an admission that they just want to be pass enough laws to be able to selectively arrest people they don't like the looks of, instead of, oh I don't know, gathering evidence and making arrests?
Of course it is. From Barqi on down, the pols want vastly over-reaching laws, to make it all the easier to abuse to further political ends. It's already happening. As Mao noted, political power flows from the barrel of a gun.
The role of the constabulary is law enforcement, Gene, you ninny. It's not prevention, it's enforcement. The prevention of crime is a responsibility of the citizen; punishment of crime is a responsibility of the state. Criminalizing the natural rights of the general populace is the soul of the Police State you dearly aspire to.
Citizens defending themselves against crime has...
shall we say “disparate impact”?
