Russia dismisses accusations Ukrainian separatists shot down Flight MH17 [it's not their fault]

Russia’s Defence Ministry dismissed accusations on Monday that pro-Russia separatists in Ukraine’s east were at fault for shooting down a Malaysia Airlines jet last week, alleging instead that Ukrainian warplanes had been flying close to the plane.

The ministry also denied accusations that Russia had supplied the separatists with SA-11 Buk anti-aircraft missile systems – which are known as “Gadfly” in NATO – or “any other weapons.”

“Russian air space control systems detected a Ukrainian Air Force plane, presumably an SU-25 (fighter jet), scrambling in the direction of the Malaysian Boeing,” Lieutenant-General Igor Makushev of Russia’s Air Forces told a news briefing. “The distance of the SU-25 plane from the Boeing was from 3 to 5 kilometres (2 to 3 miles).”

The ministry’s comments came as the Netherlands announced that prosecutors had opened an investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, which claimed the lives of all 298 people on board, 193 of whom were Dutch citizens

In the peaceful west, a crash like this would have set off a HUGE response. Hundreds of local response units, with national ones following within hours.

In Ukraine, in the middle of an active area of fighting, the initial response was one ambulance, one old fire truck with water, several locals, and a truckload of rebels.

And ALL of them were risking their lives just to do that.

You will note how Kiev didn’t immediately respond with hundreds of people, either.

They just want to play the politics of it. Russia could have responded to the crash within hours, with 200+ pieces of equipment, hundreds of people, and soldiers to protect all of them, but then these fools would be crying about the “Russian Invasion”.

....” Kiev’rs are trying HARD to control the language of what is happening”......

The Kyiv Post who’s top dog is “ Bonner” serving as chief editor...BUT he is also ‘regional coordinator’ of the Objective investigative journalism program “funded by the ‘’Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs”

Lead writer is ‘Vlad Lavrov’, the regional coordinator for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, whose donors including the “U.S. Agency for International Development”.

I wonder what a similar “analysis” of Russian media outlets would turn up?

CNN reported, live from Ukraine 30 minutes ago, that the train with the bodies had ALREADY left Donetsk, and they are under DUTCH control.

After days of obstruction, the Russian-speakers have caved yet again!

Yes indeed...and there was precious little ever reported about those people who went ‘to rescue’ any who might have survived that crash, rather they were criticized for being there ....as though the only people worthy of praise is if we've called for an International Attempt! Kiev Gov. can't move on anything without the US authorizing it, which would require Obama to make up his ungodly mind before any could act....and of course that would mean leading from the rear. We've seen plenty enough how that works....people die.

Russia was quick to say they'd respond, but of course nobody wanted Russia's assistance.

What's interesting is no matter if Russia does anything...Russia is at fault for everything....'Obama's agenda' to repeat this has completely taken over all headlines throughout the world.

I just responded on the wrong thread, but this was meant for you (and the others getting flamed for trying to keep a level head, when others are either losing theirs, or didn’t have much to lose in the first place):

You are fighting a losing battle. Any attempt to analyze this situation objectively, will result in a torrent of adolescent name calling, and non-nonsensical rejoinders. Whether it is due to a desire to return to the moral clarity of the Cold War, or due to finding ourselves in a situation where our own country is being destroyed from within (and thus are eager for a good guy/bad guy international distraction), or, in some cases, I even suspect resentment at latent homosexual tendencies triggered by Putin (particularly on this site, with a free man, and an aptly named rude boy). The situation in Ukraine was never as cut and dry as people wanted to believe, and this situation makes it dramatically messier. My fear, all along, is that emotional sentiment is driving us to a point where we are doing significant long term damage, damage that we may pay for dearly, whether economically or otherwise. To let emotion trump reason is not a conservative trait. It is odd to find it so prevalent on a conservative website.

They’re ideologically committed to Putin so much that they cannot psychologically accept any criticism of him. They’re trying to turn this conservative site into a pro-Putin site.

Agencie France Press are “Putinistas”?

France 24 is simply reporting what the Russian defense ministry says in the same way they reported what the Russian defense ministry said about it having no troops in the Crimea (a complete lie which was exposed to the entire world). Just because some mainstream media outlet reported what the Iraqi Information Minister (ie, Baghdad Bob) said during the Iraq war doesn't mean it there is any credence to it or that the propaganda makes things "interesting" as you suggest.

Dude, every thinking person in the entire world knows Russia's fingerprints are all over this shootdown. Either Russia simply recklessly gave such weapons to a bunch of goons they fund and call "separatists", or Russian operators were on the scene and screwed up just as bad.

Yes, and the worst part is they’re embarrassing the site. If a young conservative were to come to it and read those posts, he’d conclude that there are people who support a foreign enemy and former KGB man.

Putin vetoed Ukraine joining the EU. Don’t you remember defending him then?

What obstructing??

It is a CIVIL WAR, they are fighting across several fronts, and have limited resources.

You will note Kiev didn’t declare a ceasefire over this, allowing the rebels to have more response, either.

At least, not until TODAY, and that only covers an area around the crash sight, that also just happens to include several trapped Ukraine units that they have been trying to recue.

In Ukraine, in the middle of an active area of fighting

There is ONLY an active area of fighting because Russia is funding, training and sending weapons (some heavy) to the "separatists". What remained of the conflict would be over and this passenger jet would never have been shot down were it not for Russia's interference in the Ukraine. It appears to me that at least some of these "separatist" leaders aren't even Ukrainian at all.

Try to live in the here and now instead of crying about the overthrow of a government months ago that you seem to still want to support. It's pretty clear that a majority of Ukrainians have long been ready to move on, they had an election, the Right Sector boogeyman you Putinista types kept flailing around about got 2% of the vote and are insignificant, the civil strife would have passed weeks/months ago were it not for Russia's interference. I remember all this Putinista excuse making from you and others when the Russian defense ministry was claiming they had no troops in the Crimea, which was not believable at the time and later became absolutely clear it was a lie.

Here is what Russia can/should do today. Go away. Get out of the Ukraine. Stop inciting, funding, providing weapons, etc, to dubious/thuggish forces that are prolonging the fighting in, thankfully, increasingly small parts of the Ukraine.

It is a CIVIL WAR

or is it Russian immigrants coming in and taking over a province and driving the Ukrainians out and not assimilating and then trying to break away from the country that had allowed them in to begin with -- like La Raza is trying to do on our southwestern border.

So the coup, the anti-Russian statements from members of the new government about wiping out Russian culture, and legislation to do so, had nothing to do with it???

Seriously, what did you think was going to happen after that. The Kum-bah-yah imagery of roses and prosperity that EuromaidanPR was putting out?
