PM: Fewer Gaza deaths had citizens heeded IDF call [Israel and Hamas]
The Times of Israel ^ | Sunday, July 20, 2014 | Elhanan Miller

The death toll in Gaza’s Shejaiya neighborhood could have been lower had Hamas allowed residents to leave when they were requested to do so by the IDF, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told BBC Arabic on Sunday.

Days ago, Israel distributed fliers and sent text messages calling on residents of Shejaiya to leave their homes. But Hamas, Netanyahu told the British news channel, forced them to stay home, effectively using them as human shields.

Hamas has displayed photos of mangled bodies lying on the streets of the neighborhood and of the injured being taken to the city’s Shifa hospital.

“I would use this opportunity to speak to the people of Gaza,” Netanyahu told the BBC. “Heed the warnings of the IDF. Leave your homes through the places where you’re told to go. Leave. Don’t stay there, because Hamas wants you to die and you shouldn’t die for Hamas. They don’t care about you, but we want you to be safe,” he said.

Meanwhile, the high death toll in Shejaiya has increased international and Arab calls for an immediate ceasefire and for an international investigation into the fighting.

Arab League Secretary General Nabil Elaraby said Israel had perpetrated “war crimes against civilians” in Gaza. That description was echoed by veteran Egyptian politician Amr Moussa, who called for an international investigation into the events.

In other words ANYWHERE BUT THERE ... LOL ...

Sure...laugh out loud funny.

But for the civilians living in Gaza, where is "there"? Where is safe?

The borders are closed, bombs are erupting around them, homes are destroyed, travel is compromised....where is "there"?

I’m serious.

I applaud the IDF’s efforts to protect civilians.

Just asking how this realistically translates in real time for civilians.

Thanks.

You are correct that Israel should do what America did in WWII; however, I am thinking of the media and a snappy answer when the enemedia comes calling. We need snappy answers to the smears of the Left until we can explain to people that a slogan is not an argument.

Others already answered your concerns. Gaza is bigger than it looks on a map. The strikes are targeted to specific areas and warnings are sent out in advance. If the civilians who have been warned would just leave their homes and walk down the street, they would probably be ok. Certainly the odds go up against just sitting in place reading the leaflets. The reality is, these people don’t move out of the way because they are not ALLOWED to move out of the way, because they are being forced to be sacrificial lambs on the altar of islamic/palestinian filth and degregation by the filthy and degraded islamic thugs who own them like slaves.

50,000+ homes have been destroyed leaving at least that many to “roam” the streets and fill Red Cross humanitarian locations (ie: schools).

Although I thank you for the geography lesson, I still don’t have an answer to my question.

Where do people with limited resources, with no room at the humanitarian centers, and at least 50,000 people roaming aimlessly, some injured, through the streets GO??

I’m really sorry you don’t have an answer to your question. How about this: stop attacking Israel.
