Well that didnt take long.
Senate Democrats are preparing to bring a bill to the Senate which will effectively overturn the Supreme Courts ruling in the recently decided Hobby Lobby case. The Supreme Court ruled that a closely held business like Hobby Lobby could indeed handle their business suing their religious principles as a guiding force. For Hobby Lobby, that meant the government could not force them to pay for certain kinds of birth control which could be described as abortifacients. (An abortifacient is a birth control drug that works by causing the baby to be aborted.)
The Democrats worked quickly to get this legislation ready.
Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections.
The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act.
The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said.
bring backYour health care decisions are not your bosss business, said Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington, who led efforts by Senate Democrats to respond to the court ruling. Since the Supreme Court decided it will not protect womens access to health care, I will.
House Democrats are developing a companion bill.
While the House Democrats are preparing a bill that is very similar to the one that will be presented in the Senate, there is virtually no chance of the bill passing in the House, thanks to Republican control of that chamber. Which begs the question why are Democrats even trying this route to begin with?
The answer is simple my friends. Optics and Elections.
By drafting these bills which will die in the House of Representatives, the Democrats can revitalize their war on women propaganda. The claim will be that once again Republicans are standing between women and their healthcare choices. Republicans are planting their hands firmly into the wombs of Americas women. Republicans, Republican, Republicans
Sadly, the mushy brained masses who vote Democrat will buy this drivel hook, line and sinker.
The reality is quite different than the lies Democrats are presenting.
Here is what Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) said, Your health care decisions are not your bosss business. Since the Supreme Court decided it will not protect womens access to health care, I will.
Pure nonsense.
Hobby LobbyFirst, if you believe your healthcare is not your boss business, then how can you logically support forcing your boss to pay for your healthcare? That makes no sense.
Secondly, please explain how the Hobby Lobby decision hinders womens access to health care? It does not. The four abortifacients can still be purchased in any pharmacy in America. The woman who wants said birth control can even pay to get her own insurance for these things.
Democrats are hoping to use this bill as a bludgeon to use over Republicans heads this November in an effort to distract voters from the horrible mess the nation has become after 6 years of Democrat leadership. Sadly, it might even work. The media and low-information voters love claptrap like the imaginary war on women; it makes things easier for them it allows them not to think too deeply about certain issues and its easy to remember.
Our modern America cares more about cultural choices (like morality, socialism and entertainment) than it does about liberty or justice. So these terms have become perverted in our modern dialogue. Privileges have become rights, Rights have been weakened by political correctness, and citizens who plead for their rights are now called extremists.
For example - Liberals call abortion a right, but in their eyes religion becomes a personal choice that is based on your own bigotry. So abortion must be protected and religion should be marginalized.
Our founders would have argued that abortion was a crime to be punished as murder. Our founders would have argued that the right to practice your religion must remain sacrosanct.
Our founders would be disgusted to see that Americans now elect people like Patty Murray and Harry Reid to office. Theyd be disgusted with us -- and for good reason.
Or is that the plan?
"Republican war on women. Republican war on women. Republican war on women."
This a joke, right?
DOA
Didn’t the ‘Rats have trouble getting enough votes to have the odious Obamacare laws passed in the first place?
How do you pass a bill to overturn an amendment?
But...but...but I thought ALL SCOTUS decisions were “settled” law. Didn’t Red Ted Kennedy tell us that?
How? There is a reason for the 3 branches of government.
That’s my question. So a law is ruled unconstitutional, so they intend to make a new clone of that law?
I guess it’s just a publicity stunt to gin up support from their leagues of baby killers.
The weather forecast...
More misty eyes in the Speaker’s near future.
Yes. And I don't see where divided Congress will pass bill, especially in election year.
This is a sop to their baby-murdering financiers. It won’t pass the House.
Take names and vote them out of office.
It became their business when they were forced to pay for it.
If the Supreme Court’s decision was based on the First Amendment’s prohibition that Congress shall make no law infringing upon the exercise of religious beliefs by Hobby Lobby’s owners, then it cannot now do exactly what is prohibited. Proves that the Democrats in Congress have no understanding of the Constitution and Bill of Rights and that their delegation of power from the people is limited to the powers enumerated in the Constitution and constrained by the Bill of Rights.
First Amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...”
And when the don’t pass it the Democrat mantra will be “Republican war on women. Republican war on women. Republican war on women.”
If the Bolshies would work so hard on real problems, Like, impeaching OdumBO, building good neighbors, snuffing out terrorism, or, any other scandal of the regime.
Good point.
Any constitutional lawyers here?
This does not pass the smell test. It’s only for keeping the base happy.
No law was ruled unconstitutional in the Hobby Lobby case. The case was decided under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) - if Congress amended the RFRA, they could essentially nullify the Hobby Lobby decision. Not gonna happen, but theoretically possible.
