School leader mocks Michelle O’s bake sale restrictions: We can’t fundraise ‘selling carrot sticks’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State Board of Education has passed sweeping new restrictions on student bake sales in order to be compliant with federal rules on school snacks, and a lot of people are unhappy about it.

In order to comply with the Michelle Obama-inspired regulations, Tennessee schools will only be allowed to have bake sales 30 days per school year.

State Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman said it was “quite remarkable” that food fundraisers would be regulated by how many days they can be held, noting that this will prevent high school sports teams from holding weekly food fundraisers, according to The Tennessean.

It seems a shame it takes Michelle's meddling in an area she knows little about to get school policy makers to raise objections....because of money rather than waste. However, with the spot light on Ms. O. trying hard to fill her 1st lady shoes and hitting a banana peel instead of the runway she covets, a little truth of the 1st B. is leaking out.............

I am certainly glad the feds only fund about 9% of our public school’s budget!

Imagine the demands if they funded 10%, or gads even 10.5%?

Is it time to refuse the funding and go it on less?

Sevier ridiculed the regulations, saying, “If I thought I could generate revenue selling carrot sticks, I could tear it up.”

Can we have a discussion of federalism, or small government???

Can we discuss if we really need bureaucrats in Washington DC, making regulations for school bake sales in the first place???

Time to start marketing opera star trading cards complete with spinach flavored bubble gum.

Extra points if you can name the tv show.

Mickey, Mickey,

You know full well that carrots on a stick only sell when breaded and deep fried.

Da Moose would not be amused.

Lol, that was quick! The donkey drones love Obamacarrots, so why is this school griping? How much cash do they rake in by willingly attaching those strings?

Michelle’s garden is Jezebel’s table. Eat your peas (and carrots), educrats.

Liberalism is always about reducing the number of choices available - limiting freedom.

There are plenty of "conservatives" who are perfectly happy restricting freedoms when it involves their pet peeves. Just take a gander through any threads involving the "nanny state." Plenty of supporters when they agree with what is being restricted.
