I don’t remember a lot of sedentary lifestyles in the 50s at all. At least in the blue collar ranks, everybody was working pretty hard.

Of course darn near everyone smoked, maybe the nicotine kept everybody slim?

______________

Cigarettes were the number one cause of slimness. Everyone got fat after ciggies were banned from polite society..

There were lots of white collar dads who sat at a desk all day! Labor saving devices were readily available to women! We sprinkled sugar on our corn flakes, ate white bread, mashed potatoes, white rice, fatty pork chops covered in greasy gravy, fried chicken, butter-drenched vegetables, cake with sugary icing and full-fat ice cream and no one was fat.
