'Snake' Found in Mid-Day Meal in Bihar, 54 Children Fall Ill (School Lunch Program)
NDTV ^

54 students of a government middle school in Bihar's Sitamarhi district fell ill today after eating a mid-day meal in which a 'snake' was found.

Sursand block development officer Vinod Kumar said the children of Meghpur Middle School at Sursand developed symptoms of nausea and fell unconsciousness after eating the meal.

They were rushed to a nearby public health centre, given medicines and kept under observation. None of them were in critical condition, he said.

"We have seized the khichdi that was given to the students. A long, black object was found in it and we suspect that it could be a snake that got cooked with the meal. We will send the samples for tests," said Mr Kumar.

Sursand Inspector Bimar Kumar Singh said the school students ate the meal and then noticed the snake-like object in the large utensil in which it was cooked. They then reported feeling sick and began vomiting soon after.

A year ago 23 children of a primary school at Dharmasati Gandaman village in Bihar's Saran district had died after eating a mid-day meal laced with pesticides.

Don't know about dog, but I spent 6 weeks in the Philippines and had at least one hamburger that didn't taste like beef.
Love that Monkey Meat! I crewed for the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club during the festivities accompanying our strategic withdrawl under fire from Saigon. Spent more time that I liked in Olongapo PI. Interesting times.

Trapped in a mine,
Just snake to eat,
And the only ones left
To tell the tale were
Joe, and me and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.

The street vendors in Olongapo during the 70s sold “barbecue”. One was not supposed to ask barbecued “what”. (I guess that would have taken all the fun out of eating it.)

When people say ‘I would NEVER eat that’, I kind of remind them of eating the ‘goodies on the stick’ in Olongapo and other ‘exotic’ Navy towns of the Far East.

Think the story on ‘Mary Hsu’ in Hong Kong was she would paint the USN ships in the harbor for their garbage then separate it and sell it to the Restaurants as ‘fresh produce’.

Didn’t really bother with us ‘Normal’ Enlisted types, most wouldn’t waste the time or money to eat in any fancy Restaurant in Hong Kong, too many ‘dives’ to drink at.

Yes, the late 50’s early 60’s and beyond were some interesting times especially for the ‘Westpac Warriors’.

We were working on building a power plant and had a small living complex. Our showers and laundry room waste would run through a culvert and we would see the Philippinos using it to wash their clothes.

I was a fairly normal enlisted type and my buddies and I would stay at a different 5 star hotel every night when we were in Singapore or Hong Kong. We became connoisseurs of hotel lobbies, each hotel striving to outdo the others in the opulence and expanse of the lobby. It was wonderful but expensive. We were on Enterprise and that ship didn’t spend a lot of time in port so we had the money.

Went ‘up the river’ into Bangkok in 1959 on an APA (Troop Transport) and we were churning mud all the way.
On either shore, the natives were bathing, washing clothes, dipping water, animals and humans were discharging waste-it really didn’t matter what order the people were lined up, but the water seemed so brackish it probably didn’t flow fast enough to ‘hurt’ anyone —and life went on.....
Went back up again in 1961 on an LST (Flat bottom ship) and not churning mud as bad but the life on the river bank was the same...

Well we all know that you ‘NukiePoo’ types made more money than us Gators...<: <: <:

I sort of remember ‘hanging out’ around the Large Hotels in Hawaii and they would ‘run us low(ly) non rated types’ off before the ‘clientele arrived....’
Course we had a ‘deal’ they didn’t mess with Hotel St and we didn’t ‘sleep on the beach’......

Of course HASP was there to ‘protect’ us....

Good Times.... Even though we may not have known it at the time....

Ah Yes the Hawaiian Armed Services Police. I was on an old Fletcher class tin can there in the early 60,s, if they saw you standing waiting for a ride back to base and your hat wasn't squared watch out. They would tell you to square it and at the same time knock you flat with a nightstick, You didn't Even want to go down to the station where the would beat you half to death for “resisting”.

On the way ‘over’, the first stop in Pearl taught us to always BUDDY UP in a ‘dangerous’ Overseas Port. My first time through was when a Territory and we quickly learned that you always went ashore with a ‘witness’.
Much like Lesson ONE that was picked up in Tijuana.
Those ‘HASP Plicks’ were more dangerous than the HUKs in the Philippines and any of the waterfront bars in Keelung etc...
