NEW YORK (AP) -- Supersized isn't just for french fries.
Americans increasingly are replacing their once-enviable 50-inch TVs with even bigger screens. Think: 65-inches and up.
People are snagging big screens pushing sales of them up 50 percent in the past year while overall TV sales have faltered. As prices fall, hardcore TV watchers and video gamers are finding sets affordable that a few years ago would have been playthings for wealthier people.
Jarvis Jackson, for instance, plans to spend up to $1,500 for a 65-inch TV with Internet capability. Jackson, who lives in Birmingham, Ala., says he'll scale back on dining out and postpone other purchases to make room in his budget.

Jarvis Jackson? An EBT’er?
I try to be sensible about money stuff. Buying that TV is fine, if you can pay cash....it's not a necessity. Since the guy they interviewed is talking about what he'll cut from his budget to pay for it, one can assume it's not a cash purchase.
Haven't people learned yet that debt is bad?
(end of rant)
The one-percenters would like the rest of us to stay on that economic treadmill of consumption forever. They overplayed their hand when they came out with 3D TV’s during the worst recession in modern history.
“Jarvis Jackson, ...lives in Birmingham, Ala., says he’ll scale back on dining out and postpone other purchases to make room in his budget.”
If I know Jarvis, he’s a budgeting machine! If anyone can make this work within his strict budgetary guidelines, he can! Watch and learn!

Soon to appear in the dwellings of welfare recipients around the USA. http://michellemalkin.com/2007/12/22/the-shut-up-white-boy-woman-is-the-slum-dweller-with-a-60-inch-tv/
Even if I wanted one, I wouldn’t buy it until after election day, 2016. I refuse to do more than the absolute minimum in this economy, not when such activity may doom America to socialism and complete destruction. People have to see that socialism is terrible, and if I can add even a little to that effect in the short term, it’s a good thing in the long run.
Hmm, I’d continue to eat out and watch the big screen where I ate!
I have a 94 inch TV, love it!
I never understood big TVs.
I’d spend the money on some fence. Maybe a chicken tractor. :)
When I take walks around the neighborhood I am amazed at the number of freaking tv “walls” I pass by. It just seems wrong. Not sure why.
How do old standard definition 4:3 programs look on it?
80 inch class.....................
I want a big one to watch football.
And I was just going to say -
“and we people who work for a living and don’t have time to watch our 26 inch TV will be buying one for every welfare queen out there”
If I had $1500 to blow, it would probably be spent on something like this: http://www.aerostich.com/suits/two-piece-suits/roadcrafter-classic/roadcrafter-classic-two-piece-suit.html
Some of my riding gear is pretty old and needs an upgrade. Plus, I don’t wear the same size I did when I was 20.
Cut the cable and I imagine you could pay off a $1500 purchase fairly quickly.
That lady in Detroit who cannot pay her water bill has one already : )
