The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) knew for months that Lois Lerners emails had been destroyed, even before the current IRS commissioner testified that his agency would produce all of them.
The IRS knew as early as February 2014 that Lerners emails were missing, top lawmakers on the House Committee on Ways and Means confirmed Tuesday. The IRS had this knowledge nearly three months before IRS commissioner John Koskinen agreed at a hearing to turn over all of Lerners emails to the committee.
Additionally, the IRS failed to deliver emails from six other IRS employees at the heart of the IRS targeting scandal including former IRS official and frequent White House visitor Nikole Flax, according to the Ways and Means Committee.
It looks like the American people were lied to and the IRS tried to cover-up the fact it conveniently lost key documents in this investigation, Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Dave Camp and Committee member Rep. Charles Boustany said in a statement. The White House promised full cooperation, the Commissioner promised full access to Lois Lerner emails and now the Agency claims it cannot produce those materials and theyve known for months they couldnt do this.
Even when the IRS does admit something, they are not fully honest with us, Camp and Boustany stated. Despite their attempt to bury the missing Lerner emails on page 15 of a 27 page letter that arrived late Friday, we now know documents from other central figures, like Nikole Flax, are missing. The fact that Ms. Flax was a frequent visitor to the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building only raises more questions. Who was she visiting at the White House and what were they talking about? Was she updating the White House on the targeting or was she getting orders? These are answers we dont yet have, because surprise, surprise a few computers crashed. Plot lines in Hollywood are more believable than what we are getting from this White House and the IRS.
Good post!!
Crap like this will continue and worsen until someone gets lined up against a wall and pays the ultimate price.
Until then, the smug nose thumbing and corruption will increase.
“Plot lines in Hollywood are more believable than what we are getting from this White House and the IRS.”
There are two possibilities, and it’s hard to say which is more likely.
1) The e-mails are so incredibly damning that the Obama Administration and IRS would rather admit to being so completely incompetent that their level of incompetence is unbelievable to reasonably knowledgeable observers.
2) The e-mails contain nothing of significance. The next move by Obama Administration is to order the IRS to retrieve the e-mails from their backups. Once retrieved, the Administration gets its shills to chant “phony scandal”.
Well, at least the IRS was doing its "due diligence" during the elapsed time before going public to "see" if there were any other sources, backups, mirrors or tapes that would still have copies of the e-mails. Alas, after all that "due diligence" they could "find" none.
Had to wait long enough to say the backup tapes were ‘recycled’
You always recycle tapes that are under investigations! dontcha know...
I am going to try this the next time the IRS wants data
THIS REMINDS ME OF SOME ISSUES
When you have a working IT department in your company (and I assume the IRS has one) the first thing you do when your computer crashes is submit and IT request.
Then the issue gets assigned and parts ordered and replaced and the issue close.
bakups may be made
WHERE IS THE PAPER TRAIL SHOWING ALL THESE STEPS?
Subpoena all emails from other government branches and offices where Lerner is either the sender or the recipient. Mail servers like Microsoft Exchange have a search function that could get this done in a few minutes.
I'm sure Holder's Justice Department will get right on it as soon as they finish prosecuting Charlie Rangel for tax evasion. .
The IRS, in dealing with the residents of the United States, has the policy of requiring proof of innocence (aka Napoleonic Code). Thus if a taxpayer claims something, the IRS requires proof or else it denies the claim.
It appears to me to be only fair and reciprocal to use the same standard in this case. If the IRS cannot provide proof, then they must suffer the penalty!
It is interesting that this revelation does appear to close all trails to the White House, does it not? How very convenient!
If the committee doesn’t get a copy of the e-mail, it doesn’t care to see the e-mail.
I'll do it!
Hillary Clinton was a congressional staffer during the Watergate hearings. Abuse of power, lying to congress, cover-up. This is why there should be no IRS. Its very existence entices power to corrupt. Something is fishy, and the fish always stinks from the head down.
Here’s a strategy hint for GOP, go after IRS!
The whole country hates the IRS so don’t hold back. Don’t mention WH at this juncture, let the info come out as it will but nail the IRS, they’re obstructing justice, destroying evidence, and probably about 20 other charges.
The emails were destroyed accidentally on purpose.
BS
Contempt and perjury...
Like hell is ever gonna freeze over...
