According to a report from the Daily Caller, the Obama administration has been aware of allegations about the VA’s secret waiting lists since 2010:
The administration knew that an internal VA investigation into secret “paper” waiting lists was conducted in 2010 under (recently-resigned Secretary Eric) Shinseki.
According to an August 17, 2010 VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) report entitled “Review of Alleged Use of Unauthorized Wait Lists at the Portland VA Medical Center”:
“We conducted this review to determine the validity of an allegation that senior officials in Veterans Integrated Service Network 20 (VISN) instructed employees at the Portland VA Medical Center to use unauthorized wait lists to hide access and scheduling problems.”
It gets worse: “The OIG received an anonymous e-mail alleging the use of unauthorized paper wait lists, and that the clinics had over 3,500 patients waiting more than 30 days for appointments,” according to the report.
The IG report noted that “We did not substantiate the allegation” about the unauthorized wait lists but nonetheless found that some staff did not notify more than 2,000 patients of follow-up appointments.
“No one admitted to either instructing or being instructed to use unauthorized paper wait lists,” the report stated. “We also conducted visual inspections of schedulers’ work areas and found no evidence of paper wait lists.”
The questions are obvious: How far up the chain of command did knowledge of the allegations go?
Was Obama himself aware of the investigation in 2010?
Did the IG report fail to substantiate the allegations simply because “no one admitted to either instructing or being instructed” to use paper wait lists?
If Obama was aware of the 2010 investigation, why did he say, on May 22, 2014, that he stood by the embattled Secretary and would allow him to conduct (another) investigation? (Shinseki “resigned” within the week.)
Given that Obama promised – in a March 2007 speech while running for president – “comprehensive reform” and a “21st century” VA, is it reasonable to assume that he should have known about the 2010 allegations and personally looked into them? And if he didn’t, why not?

So what, nobody has the gonads to do anything about it! Life will go on as usual and this knowledge will fall into the dustbin of history, just like every other stupid thing our Idiot in Chief has done and will do. G_d , this makes me so mad and frustrated.

When the charges first surfaced at the Phoenix VA, I sad to wait and see if the same charges are made at other VA facilities. If so, then it is POLICY, not just an oversight. WELL, IT WAS OBAMA ADMIN POLICY. It happened, exactly the same way, at numerous facilities. Who will be charged with the murders of those who died waiting?

Exactly. The various facilities didn’t come up with the same paper waiting list policy on their own; there was coordination. No doubt emails will disappear or some mid-level flunkie will confess and be reassigned to a cushy promotion and that will be the end of it. It’s difficult to have much confidence that Republicans, the same party that cried when Cantor lost his primary, will do anything or be effective if they even try.
It just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it?
