I thought it was an article about disarming the federal government.

Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals

1) Don't let politicians have guns.
2) Don't let the staff of politicians, including security, have guns.

People should not fear the government; the government should fear the people.

Nearly 60 percent of the guns were brought in other states. Almost 20 percent came from four gun shops near Chicago — three in the suburbs and one in Gary.

Since it is likely a considerable portion of the remainder are stolen, it's difficult to see how anything the city of Chicago can do would make any significant impact.

It wouldn't infringe on anyone's Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Anyone legally allowed to have firearms will be able to go into a store in Chicago and buy them.

Did the author really think about what these two sentences say?

Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals is a strawman argument for reasonably stupid supporters of reasonable gun control. The fact is that criminals will get a gun if they want one and increased penalties don’t do a thing to deter them. Instead we collect data on lawful gun owners.

We would be far more effective at controlling gun crime if we locked up truly dangerous criminals and kept them locked up. Assume all other free men are fine with or without a gun.

Likewise, we must work to keep printing presses out of the hands of people who cannot be responsible with truth. We must also keep the government checkbook out of the hands of politicians and bureaucrats who cannot be responsible with the people’s money. Likewise, we must keep the signing pen away from policymakers who cannot be responsible with government power, which in the last century caused the deaths of untold millions of people more than any criminal or corporation did.

They keep saying criminals and that generally refers to the hoods and gangs who are and will always be killers. t's what they do. Chicago is a good case. And all these cruds know where to get guns and no law is going to stop them.

The serious cases of late....all are connected to persons with mental illnesses and on meds. Everyone of these was preventable with due diligence because someone was forewarned in every case.

If people start leaving the cesspools and relocating to saner places, the division will become much more visible and sanity may have a better chance to win. When Left-Wing strongholds don’t have any of us vile Right-Wingers to support them, they tend to go from deterioration to putrid rot.

“But they would make a significant difference in how easy it is for criminals to get guns.”

Uh...No, they won’t.

Where guns come from is meaningless.

If gun control laws were strict all over the country - the NEW statistics would read "90% of Chicago guns are coming from Mexican controlled cartels".

Does the idiot who wrote this really want the gun industry turned over to the mob? Chicago of all places should understand incentives involved in prohibition.

I have a better idea and congress could enact it tomorrow. It’s is already a federal felony for a felon to be in possesion of a firearm. Congress could demand a mandatory minimum five year prison sentence (on top of any other crime) for anybody previously convicted of a violent crime such as forcable rape, murder, mollestation, armed robbey, etc.

This would target directly the very people we really don’t want possesing firearms. I’m not worried that Martha Stewart might go on a shooting rampage.

Here's one simple solution to Chicago's burgeoning murder by gun problem: STOP the ATF from doing the “Fast and Furious” operation that uses guns purchased in Indiana (with ATF approval) and being funneled to Chicago street gangs! That alone would take a major bite out of crime.

[Note: Rahm Emanuel knows all about this because it was being done by ATF on his watch while he was Barry's Chief of Staff in the White House. If anything, the volume of guns supplied to Chicago gangs through ATF straw man purchases in Indiana have multiplied since Rahm became Mayor of Chicago.]
