Vancouver teacher may have had children 'pay to potty'

A lesson on the value of a dollar may have gone too far in southern Washington.

A school district is investigating claims a teacher caused a student to wet their pants at school.

At Mill Plain Elementary in Vancouver, third grade students earn play money to buy treats.

Some students said they have to use that money to get bathroom breaks, too.

In the last week, there were two cases in which children chose to spend the money on the treat instead of a trip to the bathroom.

My son had a teacher like this in 2nd grade. She told my son that he should have gone to the bathroom at lunch, and he then wet his pants in front of the class. I picked him up and he was wet, and we had to go a doctor’s appointment.

I was furious.

It was a private school, and we did not send him back there.

uh oh....Washington State essentially banned pay toilets in 1977. This teacher is in for it now.

Unless my child’s health would have been jeopardized by rescheduling the doctor’s appointment, I would have made a different first stop.

My first stop would have been the principal’s office.

The first thing I would have demanded there, is that he call the local police department and get a referral to the Health and Human services office they deal with.

Then I would demand he call them and report the teacher.

Then I would demand that teacher be removed from the classroom at once, pending investigation.

If the principal objected anywhere along the line here, I would have called the police and filed a report of child abuse naming the teacher and the principal.

Of course I would have done that anyway.

If this is the same story that Fox covered the other night, it leaves out the fact that this was Monopoly money

Clearly the first was paying this freak of a teacher to have access to kids.

Sort of reminds me of Soopie Sales telling kids on saturday morning early kids show to go in mommy’s purse and daddy’s wallet and send that paper money to him and gave an address.

Having once been a high school teacher, rest room management is left up to the individual teacher. Some give out passes which are initialed each time the kid wants to got to the RR, you may decide 12 14 times a year is suitable.
Some teachers have no limits, and some have an “emergency Only” policy.
Me, I had an old toilet seat painted pink with m name and room on it. Students had the carry with them to the RR.
It was an effective deterrent.
However I never refused a student that declared an “Emergency”
(Having been in the situation myself)

Oh, that’s nice. Humiliating a student who has to use the restroom. I bet you’re remembered fondly/s.

Not sure it makes one bit of difference as to play money vs real money. This article points out immediately that play money was involved.

My issue is that whether real or play, buttons or spoons, a child that doesn’t have the “currency” can’t take care of a basic bodily function! That is wrong and compounded by the fact that these are 3rd graders!

Think of a child dealing with the shame of “you peex your pants” for a long while. As you know kids can be very cruel and have a long memory.

Well I can tell you have never had to manage 9th -12th graders who use the restroom visit to roam around the halls peeking into other classrooms creating a disturbance and disrupting the learning of other students.

BTW.Humiliating a student who has to use the restroom. I bet you’re remembered fondly Actually I was voted Best Teacher 7 times over my career, students liked me, knew I was a no nonsense teacher, and respected me.
They all thought the seat was funny.

That is just disgusting. Even prisons don’t charge money to use the bathrooms.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

You know if that had happened to my son I would not have blamed him if he’d pissed on the teacher’ desk. That is just bs.

9-12 graders it is a different story.

This is 3rd graders. I don’t ever recall not being allowed to go but I can picture myself just shrugging my shoulders and walk towards a corner of the room while ‘unzipping’...

That would get their attention... Also like the one poster suggested just say OK and go up to the teacher and take care of business.
