This West Virginia 17-year old just beat an incumbent state delegate
The Washington Post ^ | 14 May 2014 | Reid Wilson

Saira Blair will graduate from a West Virginia high school later this month. She posts photos of her smoothie habit on Instagram, volunteers at the Martinsburg VA hospital and helps raise money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. She will not be eligible to vote until July.

But on Tuesday, she beat a sitting state delegate who was seeking a third term in office.

With all 13 precincts in her Martinsburg-area district reporting, Blair beat state Del. Larry Kump (R) by an 872-728 vote margin.

Blair campaigned on an antiabortion, pro-Second Amendment platform, offering her cellphone number to constituents and pledging not to go negative. She spent about $4,800 on her campaign, state finance records show (Kump, a former lobbyist, only spent $1,800 on his reelection bid).

“I think I’m fully capable of doing the job, and I don’t think it’s rocket science by any means — not if you just listen to the people,” Blair told the Martinsburg Herald-Mail this week.

She’s no stranger to politics, either: Blair’s father, Craig, is a West Virginia state senator. And despite being ineligible to vote for herself in the primary, she will be 18 in two months, meaning she’ll be old enough to vote in November, and to serve when the legislature reconvenes next year.

Washington Post is wrong, but then why expect them to know anything about what they report on. A voter can vote at 17 in a primary as long as they will be 18 by the date of the general election.

You have all heard it before of course, but not voting for Romney helped get Obama elected again. You can be proud of your stand on ‘principle’, but you all helped saddle the rest of the country with the hell we are experiencing now. As they said 2000 years ago...give us Barabas!

Yes we have.

And everytime we here this nonsense the answer is the same.

Mitt Romney is the one to blame. NOT conservatives who voted their conscience and principles.

Personally, I don't vote for anyone who is Pro-Amnesty, Pro-Gay Agenda, has no limited-government credentials, Taxed everything in sight when he was Governor, was, and as far as I know, still is in favor of Carbon Trading scams (he tried to create his own regional Carbon Trading scam while Governor), believes in Global Warming, was anti-2nd amendment, was anti-Reagan.

You name it, and he was/is against ALL of my conservative principles.

So you can take your blame and go pound sand!

Hey, Offender, you do not know how I voted. You are assuming, and that is an an asinine thing to do. I chided you for claiming the holyer-than-thou $hit about how you DID NOT vote...

And if you feel so strongly, perhaps you should fire the ‘first shot heard round the world’ in RWII. It will come to that, you know, why not now?

Sorry, guy. I’ve been quite familiar with Willard going back to 1994 to his Senate campaign. He was raised a left-winger by his folks and is a notorious liar across the board with a liberal dose of megalomania to boot.

That you’ve been here for 16 years on Free Republic and not well aware of those facts (given that we spent YEARS exposing the Myth of Willard on an almost daily basis) is very strange indeed.

The single most important test is amnesty and protecting our borders.

"Does anyone know what Del. Larry Kump (R) campaigned on?'

Sounds like he spent most of the campaign on his a$$.

Mitt Romney did nothing but lie during the whole campaign pretending to be some sort of conservative.

This may have been why Mitty chose NOT to attack Odumbo on certain issues during the debates—he would be attacking one of his own!

I never said Obama was better, voting for him was never within the realm of possibility to begin with. It is too bad there was no good alternative.

Willard was the ringer. His job, like McCain’s, was to stop a viable Conservative opponent from being the GOP nominee. You ever seen an opponent in the history of all Presidential campaigns make the claim that you have NOTHING to fear from the other guy becoming President ? I mean, look what LBJ did to Goldwater with the “Daisy” Ad.

Your party nominated Willard

It's not my party...yet.

after being told that conservatives wouldn't vote for him.

Which exactly means you and your ilk brought this horror down on all of us.

BRILLIANT!

If you’re not trying to replace Pat Roberts, why did you think that I was talking about you when I refered to misguided FReepers who support a nobody with no record just because he’s some liberal’s distant cousin over a proven conservative?

And why are you accusing me of supporting Romney? I opposed him in the primaries both in 2008 and 2012, and nothing in my post even implied that I support that RINO.

If and only if she stands like her father does, she has my vote. The antithesis of Davis and Co. Now let’s see if she can keep her soul in politics.
