ESPN Denounced NFL as 'Unworthy of Contemporary Society' If Sam Was Undrafted
Newsbusters ^

Posted on 05/13/2014 1:37:09 PM PDT by chessplayer

While Tuesday's Washington Post covered ESPN's elaborate planning to broadcast "a kiss that rocked the sports world" -- after openly gay Michael Sam was drafted, and they don't mean the later cake-shoving kiss that seemed a little scarier given Sam's size -- the debate over the kiss submerged the flagrant liberal editorializing that ESPN aired a few minutes before the Rams selected Sam with the 249th pick.

ESPN reporter Chris Connelly (formerly with MTV) uncorked pre-emptive anger, that if Sam went undrafted, the verdict of "history" (read: liberals) "will be derisive laughter, aimed at a league thus deemed by many to be unworthy of its place in contemporary society." Connelly attacked "tired old" prejudice and praised Sam for "weeding out the hopelessly hidebound" teams of the NFL.

Because Collins is of no use to them anymore. ESPN and other libs got what they wanted, they got their gay guy in the NBA, now that they see he has zero talent they dropped him and have moved on to the next one

Don’t forget, the NFL has an anti-trust Exception, that the government can “Review” at any time.

“Nice Anti-Trust Exemption you’ve got there, hate to see anything bad happen to it.”

hence the 7th-round pick--but the guy was the SEC defensive player of the year.

Did you watch the SEC last season? Their defenses stunk on ice. So it's not really saying much.

Several knowledgeable people I know have said that it might have been better for Sam not to be drafted and then become an undrafted free agent. He might then be better able to sign with a team where the competition is as tough.

Read the following:

from a football perspective you are dead wrong. Mike Sams has talent to play in the NFL, but only as what they call a DPR (dedicated pass rusher) defensive end. He is a bit light to be a 4 down DE, and too heavy for an OLB, but has the outside edge speed that would be needed in 3rd and long passing situations. The Senior Bowl showed that he couldn’t cover a dead cat with a blanket, but as a DPR he won’t have to drop into coverage. Now, with saying that, was it a WORTHY pick for the Rams. I like it, but I do question it with the amount of depth on their D-line. Holy crap, with their 13th overall pick, they developed the Fearsome Foursome 2.0.
The subsit that I see taking place on 3rd and long would be bringing in Sams on the blindside DE, moving Chris Long to the inside for an inside rip - thus bringing double pressure from the blind side. Leaving Quinn on the other end and Brockers clogging up the middle.

Who gives a rip if he is gay, can he play the position? The real question has to be, is he a gay football player or a football player who happens to be gay?

The bad move that Sams made after being drafted was to say that if he had not come out of the closet, that he would have been drafted in the 3rd round. Sorry, Mike, but not on your best day, too light to go every down and can’t drop into coverage - right now you are a single role football player. He should have thanked the Rams for the opportunity and left it at that.

I heard one person on radio say “What’s the difference if he kissed a man or a woman?” Some people really don’t get it.

I sure wish Fox Sports 1 would get their act together. The market is dying for an alternative. Anytime I turn it on, it’s something very specialized or Mike Frecesca’s boring radio show. We just need a ESPNnews type loop and the ratings would rise.

I agree with you. I removed my DVR taping of Mike & Mike today. I’ve had enough. It’s been my morning show of choice for 6+ years, but I can’t handle this crap any more. Somehow Stephen A. Smith is the only voice of any reason left over there.

Just my opinion, but I’d say he is good, nowhere near the best. And like all PC Correct Sports now, he will be pushed as great because the color of his skin.

I was watching young PK play when I first started getting into hockey, right after the 2010 Winter Olympics and Montreal made the playoffs and had a few exciting 7 game series.

I became a Winnipeg Jets fan for the simple fact I loved the story of hockey coming back to a hungry Canada town. They have 2 black guys, Dustin Byfuglien who is a good player, and a guy I don’t like much, Evander Kane. Lots of talent but doesn’t produce. And in typical PC journalism today, yes even in hockey, the press accuses those that get on Kane for his lack of scoring is.....or course RACISM!

“No way they can cut him. They would be crucified endlessly in the media. They’re stuck with him.”

Utter BS. He’s a marginal player and a 7th round draft pick.

Some people just don’t understand how pro sports works.

The Rams have the most talented and deepest Defensive Line in the NFL - no way Sam beats out anyone for a job.

If anything, he *might* earn a roster spot playing Special Teams, but I doubt it.

He might make the Practice Squad, but that’s about it.

PS players don’t suit up and are only activated when a player at their position is injured for an extended period of time.

And the bottom line in the NFL is winning, not PC BS

It’s delusional to think that he can’t be cut or will take the job of a starter, especially on the Rams DL

“I think the Rams were either paid by the NFL to pick Sam, or possibly were spared some sanction they may have deserved if they’d agree to take him. Consequently, he won’t be cut either under the same deal.”

They weren’t spared anything as Rams WR Stedman Bailey was just suspended for the first 4 games of the season for using PED’s, which the NFL knew about a few months ago so the NFL isn’t showing them any favoritism for drafting Sam.

And to say he won’t be cut is ridiculous. He either makes the team or he doesn’t - anyone claiming otherwise doesn’t have a clue about pro sports.

Affirmative Action doesn’t exist in pro sports. Period.

He will be lucky if he makes the Practice Squad.

This mess is just little more strange than just about a same sex relationship.

The boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, is the grandson of Willie 'the rat' Cammisano a former enforcer (aka; 'hit man') in the KC mafia. Willie got his nickname because of his reputation for dumping 'his kills' into the sewer system for the rats to consume.

Even more strange about the relationship is that the mafia is known to be VERY bias against (and unaccepting) of both blacks and homo's.

Judging by his behavior, he's a lot more interested in being an ambassador for gay rights than in playing football......Otherwise, he wouldn't have chosen to swap spit with his little friend on TV.

“the queer script has Sam being named MVP this year.”

Flat out delusional.

Some of you sound like the anti-gun crowd when discussing pro sports as some of you haven’t a clue about how pro sports works.

There isn’t any Affirmative Action in sports.

How’s that homo NBA player doing?

He’s riding the bench and not getting any playing time, that’s how and he’s not exactly being mentioned as an MVP candidate either.

If some people don’t know how pro sports works, they should probably refrain from posting as they are just making themselves look silly.

MVP? He probably won’t even make the team and if he does, he will see very little playing time.

This isn’t Putin playing Hockey.

“I had read rumors that the Rams were told they better sign Sam otherwise there would be hell to pay..he isn’t even talented, heck I probably have more football talent than he does, but he was chosen just because he is a fag and that is the ONLY reason”

And just where did you hear these rumors?

Some of you are being hysterical.

Again, this isn’t Putin playing Hockey and there isn’t Affirmative Action in pro sports.

Stop with the hysterics and the silliness already.

If you don’t know how the NFL and pro sports works, then please refrain from posting such nonsense and ridiculous rumors and speculations.

The Rooney Rule isn’t a form of affirmative action?

Punishing players for twitter comments isn’t a form of affirmative action?

The rules are going to change. I think it is pretty clear that the left has already gotten its fangs into pro sports and now rules will be changed, officially or not.

Read the following:

Spot on. STL was the worst place for him to go as their DL is the best in the league and their DL rotation is also one of the best.

Those saying that the Rams were “forced” to draft Sam are just talking ignorant nonsense.

One poster talked about how the other team is going to throw in his direction. He’s a DE, not a DB

Again, people that don’t know what they’re talking about are just making fools of themselves.

They remind me of the anti-gun crowd talking about “Automatic machine guns with large clips” being pushed by the NRA to children.

Stop with the hysterics already.

Being drafted, especially late in the 7th round means that the odds of making the 53 man roster are slim, especially on a team where the position you play is loaded and deep like the Rams.

I doubt the Rams will carry 9 DE’s on their roster. He might make the Practice Squad, but that’s about it.

He will see very little, if any playing time.

ESPN is  'Unworthy of Contemporary Society' If Sam is not appointed as a sportsanchor for the upcoming football season.

What's that, ESPN? You're not willing to hire him for that anchor job because he lacks the talent and charisma?
