Tuning the car radio some weeks back, I heard the President denounced as a moron. I was shocked. I had reached some right-wing talker and he was carrying on about something Barack Obama had recently said that he worries more about a nuclear attack on New York than he does about Russia. The radio guy declared that the president had given terrorists an idea. He apparently forgot that the notion of attacking New York had already occurred to them.

I feel about the GOP as I do about the religion of others: I dont get it.

No one can possibly think the Obama administration knew the attack was coming and let it happen.

The lying on Benghazi has been despicable.
Oh it was some film that sparked it, Oh we did not know....
Actually, I learned a great deal about my chosen profession. The insight into the black hole that is the educated liberal mind was a side effect. I already knew a great deal from having lived for a decade in Greenwich Village, and in Westchester and Palm Beach counties. But one does get a unique level of insight by spending every night for two years walking around the campus of Columbia.
I used to think a lot of these people, Obama included, were evil geniuses. It turns out that most of them just don’t care to know the truth about a lot of things.
How can the democrats justify sitting and knowing that our men were being brutalized and do nothing except make up an excuse that it was some film on the internet? This is as feeble an excuse as I have ever heard. When running, Hillary implied Obama wouldn’t know what to do if he got a call at 3:00 O’Clock in the morning. Tell me, just what did she do about this? And where was Obama and what was his part in this? One giant coverup!
You went to Columbia thinking you’d have a diversity of opinion and a lack of interest in the truth?
In the immortal words of Bob and Ray, I think you’re trying to slip a rubber peach to a gullible child.
And “an interest in the truth...” Sheesh, I’m as bad as people who don’t use paragraphs!
The excerpt-only rule applies down thread as well. Thanks.
What shocked me was just how complete the level of ignorance actually was. Even before I went to Columbia, I occasionally watched MSNB (especially on big political nights like the SoTU or elections), just to see what the other side was hearing. I preferred Rachael Maddow, because (while she is sarcastic and condescending), at least she doesn't yell. The big moment, for me, was when was having a conversation with a classmate who is religious (Epsicopalian, I believe), southern, sensitive, and very bright. He's also in his 70's and gay (which, I suppose is one of the ways a southerner gets to be a liberal). I mentioned Kermit Gosnell, and he said "Who's he?" This was while the trial was going on. Never heard the name. Even if you are the most pro-abortion person in the world, how can that be possible?
Of course the Current Regime had no idea that their very carefully crafted scheme for transferring arms from Libya to Syria, in support of the al-Qaeda-sponsored jihadists there, was going to go so very wrong. That was the purpose of Ambassador Stevens being there in the first place, to arrange the transfer, but there appeared to be a little difference in opinion by some factions of the local jihadists to give up possession of the weaponry, and they mounted their own raid to secure the weapons for themselves.
The Situation Room at the White Hut was seeing this all in real time, but for some unaccountable reason, neither the Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut nor Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold & Joyless, were willing to give the go-ahead for action to retrieve the situation, and in fact, were not even in the room as all this was unfolding.
Question #1 - Where were they, either one of them?
Question #2 - Why was the false narrative of the obscure video created?
Question #3 - Who created the false narrative?
It’s not the failure of judgment that would have been held against them, it is the now futile efforts to cover up the failure by lying about it. Not once, but repeatedly, and sticking with the lie long past its expiration date, and never, not once, taking the least responsibility for the bad judgment in the first place.
Even Nixon was better than that, and he STILL left office in ignominy.
You seem very sincere in your comments so I’ll stop being such a bitch. But I’m deeply surprised that you would give your hard-earned cash to Columbia University only to find out that they don’t know anything about left wing atrocities in our own country. I also assume that you attended and graduated this institution so that it would enhance your resume. It most definitely will. But at what price? Unless we starve these beasts, we are nowhere.
Richard, meet Damon:
I’m not a Democrat. I’m an anti-Republican. (Because - Benghazi hearings)

Who the hell is Richard Cohen, another idiot?
The Big Scam is starting to fall apart. The Grifter has the Shills out for one last try. If it doesn’t work, the Shills can help cover the escape. Talk louder, Richard!
The answer to that is, in part, it was created before the attack in Benghazi and everything points to Hillary.
Hillary Clinton is THE original source of the 'video did it' excuse...
I think you are missing my point. I had no preconceptions. I was also studying a topic more related to science than politics of philosophy. But even in that area, I was shocked at some of the things I heard (on a regular basis): “The ‘science’ of Climate Change’ is settled,” “’Fracking’ is ‘dangerous,’” etc. I do agree with you that financial pressure is the best way to get these institutions to change. But (you’ll have to trust me on this one) For the field of study that I was interested in (somewhat obscure, but with immediate professional utility for me personally), there simply was no alternative in the United States. Its a pain in the ass, but it is possible to learn for some of these experts without agreeing with them on every subject.
There’s a big difference between “The Week,” and WaPo.
The biggest being the address and the salaries. Other than that....
