GOP taking another step toward regulating presidential debates

The Republican Party is set this week to take another step in its bid to take control of the 2016 presidential primary debate calendar and prevent what GOP officials have referred to as another “circus” that damages the nominee's general election prospects.

Republicans want to head off a repeat of the 2012 primary, which featured about 20 debates spread over nearly a year that provided hours of free television exposure to second-tier candidates who were underfunded and had minimal support. The process helped to artificially extend the GOP primary campaign and diminished Mitt Romney's ability to defeat President Obama later that fall.

The fact is, if there had been fewer debates, Perry would have probably been the nominee and would have won.

The debates killed Perry.

It takes two to agree to a debate. Why are Republicans so stupid as to agree to allow CNN or CBS to host debates?

So - too much talking by Mitt doomed his candidacy?

This! Why do we allow our enemy to guide our debates? Are the Republicans really that stupid and so eager to prove themselves to the whores in what is trotted out as “journalist”?

Yes, they are...

In theory, I like the idea of, say, 20 debates.

The bad part of all those debates in the 2012 cycle was they talked about the SAME THING nearly every time.

The debates killed Perry.

Perry killed Perry. No one wanted another dullard from texas who can't string together two sentences without sounding like a moron.

So - too much talking by Mitt doomed his candidacy?

I think his record did that for him. But hey, the voters were given a clear choice in 2012. They could have voted for the pro abortion, anti gun rights, big government liberal architect of the new health care law...or they could have voted for obama.

I don’t believe intra-party debates are a good idea, period.

It seems that most of the questions are about abortion or gay marriage.
