F. Reid Buckley, a novelist, columnist, founder of a school of public speaking and, in family lore, the most literary of Aloise and William F. Buckley Sr.'s 10 children, including former Senator James L. Buckley and the conservative commentator William F. Buckley Jr., died on Monday in hospice care in Columbia, S.C. He was 83.
The cause was cancer, his son William Huntting Buckley said. Mr. Buckley had lived in Camden, S.C., since the early 1970s.
He was often mistaken for his brother William, the founder of the conservative magazine National Review. The brothers not only looked alike. They also shared political views; a somewhat aristocratic, stiff-jawed accent; and a love of polysyllabic words.

Great, great men, and I’m sure they’d both have been astonished that any American conservatives could rally behind a former KGB Col (Sixteen plus years of service in East Germay) who with $75 billion is now considered the great conservative hope for conservatives based on no understanding of what the words mean.
American conservatives give grudging acknowledgment to Putin’s manliness and undoubted patriotism and see a sad lack of same in our own POTUS. I don’t think they actually admire Vladimir Putin as he is the dictatorial leader of a warlike nation that has never known the rule of law. Not our way of governance at all.
Maybe conservatives should instead look to Benjamin Netanyahu as the adult in the room.
Sen. Ted Cruz doesn’t ride brown bears or put snow leopards in chokeholds but I think he has the qualities of patriotism, honor, integrity, & dedication to conservative principles that will make him a great President which our nation sorely needs. Yes, this is a plug.
Speaking only for myself, I admire Benjamin Netanyahu as a world leader on the right side, also a cutie. I recognize Vlad Putin as a Russian patriot who is interested in the advancement of his country and is taking practical steps in that direction.
One can’t say that about Obama. (Not an American patriot nor a Russian patriot, and not a cutie ;-).

Well, yes. But if you’re the dictator of Russia, that’s expected. If you’re the President of the US, it’s treason.
If Russia did not have nationalized industries, tightly controlled media, highest abortion rate on earth, invading neighboring countries, legal kiddie porn and pedophilia it might not be such an evil place
FRB did live in Spain under Franco, so he'd be familiar with the idea of thinking a foreign strongman the least of the possible evils. He might have thought, though, that with the end of the Cold War we'd gotten beyond that. And yes, both brothers would find it strange that a KGB agent is celebrated by some on the right.
