WASHINGTON Today the Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for withholding records sought by the RNCs 2013 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. In the initial request on May 21, 2013, the RNC sought to review documents and correspondence related to criteria used for reviewing and approving 501(c)(4) tax-exempt organizations. This request followed revelations that the IRS had been targeting conservative organizations, and the RNC sought to shed light on who had ordered actions to be taken against those groups and why.
Over the course of the last 226 business days, the IRS requested several extensions in order to complete the RNCs request, but has yet to present the information. The RNC believes the undue delay in producing the requested documents is unacceptable and inexcusable, given that many of these documents have been already produced to other requesting entities. Release of the requested documents is in the public interest, as Americans deserve to know how the IRS interprets and enforces the tax lawsand why it would deliberately target people because of their values and beliefs.
Were filing this suit because the Obama administration has a responsibility to be transparent and accountable to the American people. The IRS has a legal obligation to answer our inquiry for these records, said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. On Tax Day especially Americans deserve to know whether they can trust the agency to which theyre sending their taxes.
If the IRS and the Obama administration dont have anything to hide, why not answer the request? Their delays and distractions make Americans think theyre trying to cover up their actions, just like ex-IRS employee Lois Lerner. Were going to keep fighting to hold the IRS and Obama administration accountable because Americans deserve a government that treats them fairly and not one that harasses them because of their beliefs nor an administration that goes after its perceived political enemies.

I applaud the RNC (Republicans) for this
That’ll show ‘em.
Follow-through is not the RNC’s forte, unfortunately.
yeah, I get a feeling they’ll just say “the ball is now in the IRS’s court. We did what we could blah blah blah”.

You’re against the lawsuit? I think this is a positive...

Exactly right...how can anybody have a problem with this? This is exactly what the RNC should be doing...
No, I'm against merely a lawsuit.
Impeachment would be a good STARTING point.
We’ve run up to kick that football that Lucy is holding for us one too many times. I do NOT trust the turn-coat RNC. They are doing this for self-preservation reasons alone, and as soon as those reasons change or cease to exist, watch the chronic amnesia kick in.
Sorry to be so negative, but we do not have RINO’s on our side.
Of course, a judge will soon find that the ‘Pubbies lack standing and dismiss it...
And they so rarely do the right thing ..I’m not going to miss a chance to be happy with the RNC for a day. They’ll give me plenty of days to be upset with them, so why waste a day of precious life when they actually DO do the right thing?
yet, so many will ..
..Im not going to miss a chance to be happy with the RNC for a day.
Amen...we know they’ll let us down...it’s what they’re good at...Credit where credit is due...
As do I. Additionally, TEA Party Patriots filed a separate suit against the IRS today...

Holder will get right on that...
DC Circuit Court, RNC has it’s own lawyers. Holder can’t stop it.
Thanks smoothsailing. I didn’t check the thread for the “moan moan moan, they ain’t never gonna do anything about it, bitch, bitch, bitch” comment crowd.
lol, we had a few of the usual suspects.
