As Many As One Million Armed New Yorkers Are About To Break The Law
Forbes ^ | 4/13/2014 | Frank Miniter

This year April 15 is more than the tax deadline for an estimated one million New York State residents. It’s also the deadline to register “assault weapons” and “high-capacity” magazines. If they don’t, they’ll begin living outside the law. A lot of them have decided to do just that. They’ve decided to practice civil disobedience even though failure to register an “assault weapon” by the deadline is punishable as a “class A misdemeanor,” which means a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

I put “assault weapon” and “high-capacity” in quotes because their definitions vary by state—they’re political terms. In New York State, the SAFE Act passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in January 2013, uses an expansive and elaborate definition of “assault weapon” that includes a lot more than AR-15s. Now even a semiautomatic Remington Model 1100 shotgun—a popular shotgun first made in 1963 that is used by millions of hunters and skeet shooters—is an “assault weapon” in New York State if the shotgun has a pistol grip. Many other commonly owned pistols, shotguns and rifles are also now labeled “assault weapons” in New York State.

When I asked the New York State Police how many New York gun owners had registered the guns they own that now fit somewhere into the state’s expansive “assault weapons” category the state responded: “New York State Police cannot release information related to the registration of assault weapons including the number of assault weapons registered. Those records you seek are derived from information collected for the State Police database and are, therefore, exempt from disclosure.”

This is the same dilemma Connecticut gun owners found themselves in at the end of 2013. As of December 31, 2013, according to Lt. J. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police...

They’re going to send 200 armed BLM officers to surround them.

regustration means confiscation.

Never register. Bury them if you must, in cosmoline, but
NEVER register.

It violates the 2nd amendtment to requuire registering them,
so civil disobedience is justified.

I would say:

“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” - Thomas Jefferson

But we are way past that. If you register you put a big target on your back. If you register they will change what is allowed and come for your gun. Canada, Australia, New York city... They do it ALL the time. Registration leads to confiscation, each and every time. Always

This is getting encouraging. Between Connecticut and now New York, the populace is getting fed up, not to mention all the laws being passed by the States that allow either open carry and/or concealed carry.

I read this forum almost every day and one of the joys I get is the articles about someone blowing the crap out of some home invader - and getting off. Love it! And liberals wonder why the FBI statistics say crime is going down. They think it's the police...har! It's the fact that over the last decade or more that decent citizens are packing.

An Australian told me that they passed a registration law. Then they went door to door and collected all the guns. I saw a photo of really nice Spencer rifles (US Civil War)being crushed by a road roller.

We must recognize that registering guns is of itself an act of tyranny.

Is registration in person? If not, people need to start “registering” phantom “assault weapons” in leftist’s names and sending in those registrations in droves. Flood and invalidate the system while getting some libtards harassed by their beloved government.

The NY SAFE act web page says you need a Drivers License to register. https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/safeact/welcome.faces

And of course "those records" were collected legally, right?

I don't believe it for a minute.

The political class relies upon voluntary compliance with their edicts to meet their aims. Without that, they’re impotent busybodies not much different from those you see getting really excitable about the bylaws of their homeowners association.
