Lithuanian MFA: Terrorists use AK-100 assault riffles

Militants in eastern Ukraine are armed with Russia's newest assault rifles AK-100, which Ukraine doesn't have in service.

Lithuanian foreign minister Linas Linkevicius says Moscow's role in unrests in eastern Ukraine is proved by evidence by detained people and weapons that the activists used to seize administrative buildings, UNN reports on April 14.

“The detainees, who took part in organising disorders, confessed they are citizens of Russia. The found weapons, such as AK-100 rifles, are used in Russia. There are no such rifles in Ukraine. Other evidence includes the fact that the groups are using the same radio frequency and uniforms that were used in Crimea,” Linkevicius said.

He added the number of evidence proving Russia's involvement in the unrests, provocations and propaganda would be presented to the international community by his colleague.

According to the Lithuanian minister, the actions by the Russians in eastern Ukraine have signs of terrorism. Russia wants to disrupt the Ukrainian presidential election scheduled for May, he thinks.

Linkevicius finds grounded the decision to launch a large-scale anti-terror operation in Ukraine, because, as he says, “the slow occupation of the country is under way”.

The AK-101 is an assault rifle of the Kalashnikov series. The AK-101 is designed for the world export market, using 5.56×45mm NATO cartridges, which is the standard of most NATO armies. The AK-101 is marketed at those looking for a weapon that combines the logistical compatibility and familiarity of the 5.56×45mm NATO round with the reliability of a Kalashnikov. It is designed with modern and composite materials, including plastics that reduce weight and improve accuracy.

I am not sure what AK-100 is.

In case you wondered who these armed thugs were this time, yes. Your guess was correct.

The rail on the middle weapon is useless for optics. The dust cover is too loose for that purpose. Once it’s removed to clean the weapon, you can forget about your zero.

I know what they meant by AK-100. I am not sure what a riffle is.

Perhaps related to a wiffle bat?

(the journalist misspelled the headline.)

the Ljungmann has the same problem. the dust cover is also the cocking handle. the manual of arms must have called for some outstanding hand strength.

AK-100 is exported, in use in other countries, also used in .223 and Russian caliber, AK-100 is used by police and special forces in Europe too.

2/3 of the Ukraine military in Crimea left to become citizens of Crimea, thus Russia. Even CBS news this AM was reporting about Ukranian security personnel and military who have switched sides to support the separatists.

The trained military might well be those who've left the Ukranian military, with weapons and knowledge of the area. They'd be capable of planning and coordinating these protests, I'd think.

And what? No one has said they only have AK-100. However that photo is revealing of the same thing: plenty of identical gear and uniforms, and where they got these Kalashnikovs? You can't get them in a store. These are not local rebels, someone armed them.

Yes, the spelling is not the best. Gets better in the text. The forum guidelines are not to edit the titles, or else I would decipher “MFA”, too.

Thank you. So the proper term is “AK-100 series” meaning any AK-10x. I was a bit perplexed trying to find a picture and only finding AK-101 and 102.

So what is the weapon in #4? It sure doesn’t look like wooden stock.

AK-100 is the generic name for anything 100 or higher.

Except Ukrainian military, according to the minister, do not have these weapons.
