“Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has effectively admitted losing control over Ukraine’s Russian-speaking southeastern promises by announcing the formation of special battalions of “patriots” intended to replace them.”

The Kiev government is not a “coup government” any more than the US government has been a “coup government” since the revolution. The people ousted a tyrant subservient to a neighboring tyrant. The country is not fracturing, a belligerent and malevolent neighbor is purposefully breaking it into pieces using covert and overt military force.

The only difference between Ukraine and early US is that we were next to Canada while they are next to Russia. It is sad how impotent the free world is in the face of naked Russian aggression.

The White House on Monday said President Barack Obama would speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin soon, perhaps later in the day, and made clear the United States was not considering lethal aid for Ukraine.

Just under half of of voters voted for Yanukovich, the president who was overthrown in the coup. Some of the those people are in Crimea and some of those people will tolerate the new, unelected gov’t, but no one should kid himself that there are not a lot of Ukrainians who do not accept the current gov’t as legitimate. These folks are not all Russian agents.

How would Democrats or Republicans in America act if a coup overthrew their president? Many would not accept it and some would get militant.

This is why fomenting a coup was such boneheaded move.

There is no good reason for America to be involved in Ukrainian politics the way it has been. We have no vital interests there. Our policy of pressuring Ukraine into the EU and NATO has no benefits for us, only liabilities.
