Ukraine’s New Government Has Lost Its Grip On East Ukraine

“The police in Horlivka have gone over to the side of the people.”

At 10:33 Monday morning, Sergei, a freelance cameraman in this sleepy industrial town 30 miles from the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, got a call from a blocked number. The man on the line said he was from Russian state television and asked if he could film an angry mob storming the local police station. Unsure what they were talking about — some anti-government activists had protested in Horlivka over the weekend but police held firm and things were now quiet — Sergei, declined.

Two hours later, he realized what they meant. Horlivka’s police station was a wreck, with most of its windows smashed in and several hundred working-class men milling around the lobby and courtyard, many of them wielding wooden sticks and iron batons. The police chief, who initially vowed to hold out to the end, was hospitalized after being beaten; his deputy was taken away in handcuffs to the regional government building in Donetsk, which anti-government protesters have occupied for the last week. Two figures in masks waved the black, blue, and red flag of the provincial separatist movement from the roof to loud cheers from the crowd. A man in fatigues wandered out to address them.

“The police in Horlivka have gone over to the side of the people. They were always with us,” he said. He claimed the officers inside had removed their Ukrainian insignia and replaced them with orange-and-black ribbons, a World War II symbol reappropriated by pro-Russians during Ukraine’s political crisis.

The new government in Kiev seems to have all but lost much of eastern Ukraine. By Monday afternoon, the anti-terrorist operation involving the army that acting President Oleksandr Turchynov announced the night before was nowhere to be seen...

“Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has effectively admitted losing control over Ukraine’s Russian-speaking southeastern promises by announcing the formation of special battalions of “patriots” intended to replace them.”

They’ve been invaded by the Russian Army. Apparently with the approval of the Germans.

The Kiev government is not a “coup government” any more than the US government has been a “coup government” since the revolution. The people ousted a tyrant subservient to a neighboring tyrant. The country is not fracturing, a belligerent and malevolent neighbor is purposefully breaking it into pieces using covert and overt military force.

The only difference between Ukraine and early US is that we were next to Canada while they are next to Russia. It is sad how impotent the free world is in the face of naked Russian aggression.

I really, really know you want that to be true. But I want the White Sox to win the World Series this year.

Yes, I understand. Everyone is a Russian agent, or a paid troublemaker, and should be gunned down in cold blood, right? Hundreds of thousands of them, even the 80 yr-old ladies, right?

Did I get the Right-Sector/Svoboda propaganda line correct?

Not really. It was at most a few hundred firebomb throwing, Soros/EU funded neo-Nazis in one city. If they didn't like the tyranny of Russia they are going to love the tyranny of the Soviet EU. The Ukrainians are already being reamed financially and having their guns confiscated. Wait until they a inundated with Third-worlders and Muslims and charged with Hate Crimes if they complain about it.

Which part? Being under the boot of the sodomite EU or the part about Russia saving them? I don't want anyone living under the Globalist EU abomination that is for sure.

You have it exactly backwards and that is why Putin is invading now. Putin can't afford a stable and independent Ukraine while he is robbing the Russian people with his kleptocracy.

If you took off your Soros Derangement glasses you might see that.

The White House on Monday said President Barack Obama would speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin soon, perhaps later in the day, and made clear the United States was not considering lethal aid for Ukraine.

The “malevolent neighbor” is very good with propaganda and with the big lie that it has attracted the support of a good portion of Europe and America. That is unless, of course, you live in Poland, Estonia, etc. or just value freedom.

By the way, the Wolfsangel emblem on the Svoboda flag, it was the official emblem of the 2nd SS panzer division that was infamous in Ukraine, and brought its mass murder act to Oradour France.

“it has attracted the support of a good portion of Europe and America.”

Don’t confuse “Support” with an observation of the facts, as available, or trying to devine the truth from the propaganda of both sides.

To the Right-Sector trolls, merely noting what the official Russian line might be, or what the Russian press is saying is “SUPPORTING PUTIN!!!” They don’t try to dispute it, they just scream insults. (with all ID’s arriving at the same time. How odd?)

And there is a LOT more going on here than just a coup, or Putin taking advantage of weakened Ukraine. There is a MUCH larger geo-political game playing out here, that goes back as far as Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.

I prefer to not wear blinders, thanks...

IIRC wasn’t that the division that took part in attacking Americans in the Battle of the Bulge?
