Bundy ranch dispute with federal land agency draws variety of foot soldiers

BUNKERVILLE — Cliven Bundy’s fight with the Bureau of Land Management over the federal agency’s roundup of his cattle attracted a diverse group of foot soldiers: fellow ranchers, Las Vegans and militia and patriot groups were among them.

Their battle cry is the U.S. Constitution and liberty. They fear the federal government overstepping its bounds at every turn. This concern, in their view, applies to those from all walks of life, be it a rural Southern Nevada rancher or a militia member from northern Montana.

Ultimately, the Bundy protest — which was defused Saturday when federal land officials agreed to end the weeklong roundup that culminated in a 20-minute standoff between armed protesters and law enforcement officers — became an outlet for those wanting to voice their opinions about government overreach and any perceived infringement of constitutional rights.

Armed militia members wore holstered weapons and mingled with cowboy-hatted ranchers throughout the week. Tents popped up across the landscape and vehicles became temporary bunks as the Bundy ranch, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, turned into a gathering place for traveling pilgrims from across the nation.

“We’re all in this together,” said Rick Lovelien, 50, a militia member from Libby, Mont., with the Montana State Defense Force.

The armed standoff ended, Lovelien said, the way it should have — with the cattle returning to the land.

They interviewed some folks from CA who joined in on the Bundy event and the reporter asked, "You are from California"? The man responded, "Yeah, were not all Communist"...

What a honking hoot.

I’m thinking there are thousands of petty bureaucrats and rent-seekers pissing their pants today. “You mean militias are real?” “I thought we made those up to slam the tea party and the rethuglicans!”

Consternation to the enemy! The Marxists are NOT happy with this outcome. On the other hand, we Constitutionalists are very happy.

And notice, it's "the people's land". How delightfully Marxist. Ignores, of course, the Fedgov's unconstitutional usurpation of the right of every state to a republican form of government, and of its own sovereignty. The Feds treat NV like it's a Federal district. Well, it is almost is, sadly enough.

I am proud of everyone who loved our country enough to travel there and make a stand

I am just sorry Bundy decided he didn’t have to follow the laws and chose this way to act.
I hope Bundy’s actions do not diminish the courage and honor of those who showed up.

We know the media and 0dumbo will try to make them look deranged and dangerous

Marbury v. Madison. Unconstitutional laws are null and void.

Maybe I'm wandering into tin foil hat territory, but I can't help but wonder if this entire thing my have been organized by the feds to identify those patriots who would be the front-line in a situation such as this, so before some future operation, they can be individually rounded up and detained before they have a chance to organize a resistance.

selective reporting?
how so?
Bundy doesn’t have the right to decide he won’t pay fees anymore and not expect consequences

Of course 0dumbo and the feds grossly over reacted. I think they did so to get the exact reaction from good patriots that they got.
Good honorable people showing up with guns to defend what they thought was a worthy cause
it was not
and now watch
MSM 0dumbo and dem pols will portray those good patriots as out of control crazed people with guns> Next will come another call for registration of guns
and then we all know what happens next

I am just sorry Bundy decided he didn't have to flollow the laws and chose this way to act

What kind of fair laws could they be if evry rancher except Bundy was already forced out of ranching the land?

This at a time when the price of beef is skyrocketing because demand exceeds supply. Nobody's mentioned that aspect, have they?

I respectfully disagree with you. I'm glad at least one family had the guts to stand up to an unjust law. There never would've been an American Revolution if patriots hadn't stood up to unjust laws. The slaves never would've been freed. Tne Viet Nam War never would've ended. etc

What is unconstitutional about the fees the feds were collecting?
I ask because I do not know

That land was federal land before Nevada became a state

The real story is the Reid family and the Red Chinese.
THAT selective reporting.

The LV paper’s story is a second day, PM lead.

Who decided that the BLM was acting unconstitutionally? Not the courts, Bundy has lost all of his court battles.
