AP NEWSBREAK: RUSSIAN JET PASSES NEAR US WARSHIP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, U.S. military officials said Monday.

In the first public account of the incident, the officials said the Russian Fencer made 12 passes, and flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level.

The U.S. warship issued several radio queries and warnings using international emergency circuits, but the Russian aircraft did not respond.

"This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with international protocols and previous agreements on the professional interaction between our militaries," said Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman.

Please. I wasn’t arguing who is right and who is wrong. All I was saying is that when there is a very tense situation, you don’t send a ship in to stir things up UNLESS you are prepared to back it up.

No, if Putin attacked one of our ships, I certainly wouldn’t say it was justified. I’m just saying, IF he did such a thing, is Obama prepared to respond? I seriously doubt it. He never hesitates to send our troops into harm’s way. But he is not prepared to defend them. Like Afghanistan, it’s merely a political gesture, with our troops’ lives on the line—and often with Rules of Engagement that do not permit them to defend themselves.

Have Obama or his carefully selected military leaders made any plans for what they would do in response?

They're busy right now and can't be bothered. The new LGBQT recruitment campaign is about to kickoff and they're putting the final rainbow colors on the new uniforms.

If it had been a carrier some F18 Hornets would have been on his butt lighting him up.

Absolutely no reason for us to have a ship there. It’s taunting and stupid.

I was thinking A-5 Vigilante. Now there’s a blast from the past.

We should pray for everyone serving in our armed forces. We have a clueless metrosexual community organizer as commander in chief. A fool who that is placing those in uniform at risk.

Oh Black Sea is Russian now? I thought it was international waters.
Did we buzz the Russian ships that paid a call to Cuba?
I can’t believe the excuses around here for Russia’s increasingly aggressive actions.

Hope the skipper of the “USS Cook” watches those Turkish shipping channels. Already had 1 captain relieved this spring for plowing mud in Turkey during the Sochi Olympic Games.

I think the Fencer has no internal weapons storage. Too old and too small for that. Everything hangs from hard points in plain sight.

“You don’t make a provocative move like that—sending a warship into what are basically Russian waters, whatever the international legal position may be—without having backup plans. But it seems very unlikely that Obama’s jerks have made any such plans.”

Obama seems to be following the footsteps of LBJ

I don’t think the Russians think the US is being a grownup here. I believe they taunt because they know the US will not react but whine, kind of like Eric Holder does when he is challenged.

Maybe the Russians find it amusing.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!

I thought the SU-24 was just like the F111, with an internal bomb bay. THanks for the education! You made me less ignorant today!

I recall from my Psychology 101 class eons ago the concept of displaced aggression. If someone is feeling a threat that they can’t respond to directly, they may take it out on someone else or something totally unrelated. Maybe this is why the Bamster got busy trying to conduct a military raid on a Nevada cattle rancher. He wanted to feel powerful, but wanted an enemy that wouldn’t shoot back. (That didn’t work out as planned.)

As someone recently wrote on FR, Obama is “a Caesar at home, and a Chamberlain abroad”.

I think the decline America is experiencing now is even deeper, more precipitous than what we suffered under Carter. The big difference is that our enemies don’t even have to take advantage of the weakness; they just have to sit back and let the 0bama cancer continue to do its work. One day the wind will blow a little bit harder and the termite-riddled house will come down around us.
