Ukraine Announces Full-Scale Army Operation on Pro-Russian Militants

In what some call "crunch time" others a worst case scenario, Ukraine Announces Full-Scale Army Operation on Pro-Russian Militants in Seized Buildings.

Ukraine's president says a full-scale operation involving the army will be launched in the east after pro-Russian militants seized government buildings.

Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov said he would not allow a repetition of what happened in Crimea which was annexed by Russia last month.

His live televised address from parliament came after pro-Russian forces targeted half a dozen cities.

An urgent meeting of the UN Security Council will be held in New York.

The meeting, at 20:00 New York time (midnight GMT), was called for by Moscow, which has strongly criticised Kiev's plan to use its armed forces in eastern Ukraine.

Responding to Mr Turchynov's address, a Russian foreign ministry spokesman said the plan to use the armed forces was "criminal" and caused "particular indignation".

Ukraine was, the spokesman said, "waging war against its own people".

Nato chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen's statement on Sunday drew parallels with some aspects of last month's seizure of Crimea.

He said the "reappearance of men with specialised Russian weapons and identical uniforms without insignia, as previously worn by Russian troops during Russia's illegal and illegitimate seizure of Crimea, is a grave development".

On Saturday, armed men took over police stations and official buildings in Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Druzhkivka.

Similar accounts emerged of armed men dressed in camouflage arriving in buses in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk and storming the police stations.

BBC reporters in Sloviansk said the gunmen were well-organised and quickly established control throughout the town. Checkpoints had been set up on the main roads into the town.

I suspect much of the “Ukrainian” security apparatus in the east of the country is on the Russian payroll. I don’t see how the Ukrainians can effectively conduct anti-terrorism operations with so many Russian agents in their camp.

It’s so transparent. 1) First we have a military op to seize the objective. 2) Then give guns to some nearby alcoholic stooges for some local flavor. 3) Decorate the Potemkin scene with some old women and children. 4)Slurpers joyfully repost photos of the scene on the internet.

Sad to see the America hating fringe cheering on this terrorism.

The elected Ukraine govt was toppled by a mob. This mob now pretends it has a right to rule and other groups of protestors far less violent than itself are not legitimate. Then they whine when they cant rule.

Just because the rabble that toppled kievs elected govt was backed by western money doesnt mean its legitimate.

I disagree. There was widespread corruption including putting the former president in jail. The government was toppled. There is an interim government in place and there will be elections shortly. What Russia ia doing is disabling things for their own interests.

A group that claims it is the interim govt and is in place but is unable to rule and much of Ukraine doesn’t recognize its legitimacy. It hasnt been able to mount any resistance at any level because its own police and military dont even recognize its legitimacy.

Dnc claimed corruption every time they lost here does that mean if they staged a coup we would recognize them ?

Govt of ukraine disregarded a legitimate election to obtain power and refuses to recognize other votes of the people. It would be totalitarian if it had any army or police. Its just a paper tiger.

How did Gorby put it - “We are born, we suffer, then we die. That’s it.”

(Obama Requests $1.1 Billion, DOJ $382.1 Million for Gun Control)

(McCain on Face The Nation-April 12, 2014) And unless we act with firmness and strength, including beginning in my view with giving Ukrainians some weapons to defend themselves and some very, very severe sanctions

Gun Control is ObamaControl.Period.

Moral equivalency is a favorite tool of the left. Your opinion would be right at home over at the DUmp.
