Chances of getting audited by IRS lowest in years

As millions of Americans race to meet Tuesday’s tax deadline, their chances of getting audited are lower than they have been in years.

Budget cuts and new responsibilities are straining the Internal Revenue Service’s ability to police tax returns. This year, the IRS will have fewer agents auditing returns than at any time since at least the 1980s.

Taxpayer services are suffering, too, with millions of phone calls to the IRS going unanswered.

“We keep going after the people who look like the worst of the bad guys,” IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said in an interview. “But there are going to be some people that we should catch, either in terms of collecting the revenue from them or prosecuting them, that we’re not going to catch.” …

So conservative groups are “look like the worst of the bad guys” then? Thanks for admitting said viewpoint, Mr. Commissioner.

oh please. the only thing Obama uses the irs for is politics. like everything else in this country now, there is no honor or integrity at the irs.
can you picture the former acorn members who now work at the irs, they probably have no clue about anything but what the Marxists tell them to do.

In the grand scheme of things yes....

* Taxes are so complicated they are going to Professional Preparers starting with the chain H & R Block all the way up to higher end CPA's etc that are entrepreneur types in your area.
* Their software ( various brand names "Lacerte" or in-house platforms have built in checks for errors or a tab / button to run error checks.
* Even your own Turbotax that Tim Geitner can't run, has an Error Module you can click on before electronic filing and an "Audit Meter" based on the "if" what your doing is puts you in "red flag" areas, i.e. the deductions etc that get the IRS's attention like the Home Office Space Deduction.

Freeper Tax Pro's if you have a moment, I know you are busy, but please chime in as to am I spot on, or are their gaps in my assessment...

The I.R.S. had plenty of time and resourses to audit me last year, me and 80% to 90% of the people who dared to adopt children and claim the legitimate child adoption tax credit.

I came out squeaky clean, as did the huge majority of adoptive parents.

I think they hired thousands to administer Obamacare.

Well, I do hope the writer is correct as I recently made a call to the IRS about a tax exempt issue and got the typical “affirmative action” (meaning DUMB ASS) IRS employee as the person I was to talk with.

After several minutes trying to “reach into the persons comprehension side of their brain” (to no avail) I made a few statements that had something to do with WHY this country was in such bad shape. (Guess my frustrations surfaced.) I gave that IRS person enough “ammo” to do what they do best and that is to audit ME. Time will tell.

I’m guessing the chance of an audit is low because they’re so busy making life rough for conservatives.
