I'm impressed with Florida too.
We (Florida) were also early with 'conceal carry' laws. And sure enough, our crime rates went down. Local papers portrayed it like we were going to be the wild west with shoot outs on every corner... and that just DID NOT happen. Our liberal media was surprised they were proven wrong so quickly.
This will be the same. In an emergency - when a call to 911 and a response are impossible, being able to protect your family and community are important. That right won't be abused.
I weathered Hurricane Katrina 120 miles inland at my deceased parents home. Power, phones and cell phones were out for weeks. Fortunately, that rural area of Mississippi is loaded up with well armed and experienced hunters and vets. Very little crime to report. Any would-be thieves knew they would be dead meat if caught looting or stealing.
Contrast that with the rampant crime in New Orleans where only the criminals were armed.
