In an emergency - when a call to 911 and a response are impossible, being able to protect your family and community are important.

I weathered Hurricane Katrina 120 miles inland at my deceased parents home. Power, phones and cell phones were out for weeks. Fortunately, that rural area of Mississippi is loaded up with well armed and experienced hunters and vets. Very little crime to report. Any would-be thieves knew they would be dead meat if caught looting or stealing.

Contrast that with the rampant crime in New Orleans where only the criminals were armed.

Excellent point Islander... Thanks for sharing. As an aside, did you know Goal Zero has a solar powered charging system for cell phones and tablets that cost less than a hundred dollars? I got one - living in Florid and all... you can charge directly from the sun...
