Rand Paul on Bush: You can't invite the whole world to come
Real Clear Politics ^ | Scott Conroy

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Friday responded to contentious remarks made by Jeb Bush last weekend, in which the potential 2016 Republican presidential rival said that illegal immigrants who come to the United States seeking a better life for their families often do so as "an act of love."

“I think it wasn’t the most artful way of saying something, but I think he was well-intentioned,” Paul said in an interview with RealClearPolitics. “If I were to make the same point, I would say that people who seek the American dream are not bad people, but that doesn’t mean you can invite the whole world to come.”

Rand makes some okay points here compared to when he spoke of camps. Scott Walker says that anyone who wants to work should be let in. Unfortunately this seems like the only sensible thing Rand has said on the issue. I worry about the general election when candidates don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Could we just deport these 2?

Of course Rand is correct, but I don’t care. Way too many issues and problems with him.

"but that doesn’t mean you can invite the whole world to come."

Maybe what Paul means is only half the world should be let in.

I am inclined to trust Rand Paul much more than Hillary Clinton on immigration issues. May be some people here trust Hillary more.

“They come to this country and they’re not bad people,” he said.

If we're gonna have an honest debate about this lets start by admitting that not all of them are "not bad people".

Many are people who come only for government handouts - someone else's money.

Some are very bad people who prey on, injure and kill others here. One glance at the demographics of the incarcerated population in CA is proof enough.

No more platitudes. We will never have an appropriate solution to this problem if we continue to view it through rose colored glasses.

A wealthy nation can chose to have an advanced welfare state.

Any nation can chose to have open borders.

No nation can chose to have both.

I don’t believe the Neocons and Border hawks in Congress will want to work with Paul on immigration should be be elected.

First step is to block amnesty until 2017.

Delete the word "immigration" and replace it with "all."

The road to hell...

Good intentions are a prerequisite to good actions.

They don't all pave the road to hell.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

You prefer Rand Paul to Hillary Clinton.

That is an impressive republican primary argument “Rand Paul, better than the democrat primary candidates”, you should send that to the Rand Paul strategy team.
