KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -- Authorities in Ukraine's capital are warning that they are prepared to use force to clear several government buildings that have been seized by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The country's interior minister says the standoff in Luhansk and two neighboring regions must be resolved within the next two days.

As he spoke, anti-government protesters in Luhansk raised high barricades along a thoroughfare in front of the security service building. Hundreds of supporters camped outside overnight and chanted the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The 1999–2000 battle of Grozny was the siege and assault of the Chechen capital Grozny by Russian forces, lasting from late 1999 to early 2000. The siege and fighting left the capital devastated. In 2003 the United Nations called Grozny the most destroyed city on Earth.

On October 15, 1999, after mounting an intense tank and artillery barrage against Chechen separatists, Russian forces took control of a strategic ridge within artillery range of Grozny.

Likely a bad mistake. Russia will find an excuse without this, but this could make it easy for them.

"There are reports on social media this morning about how “pro-Russian residents” of Kharkiv stormed the Opera, thinking that it was the town hall, and demanded that the mayor come out. It's very surprising that these so-called “residents” of Kharkiv would think that the Opera was the town hall."

May they be greeted the same way the authorities were in Kiev.

The only reason the tire-burning thugs toppled the gov in Kiev was the government didn't shoot on them until the point at which people were getting killed, security forces and protestors.

I do not see how the coup government uses violence to remove protestors in eastern Ukraine. The hypocrisy would stun the world.

I think the world will notice. Odd reason....the new Captain America film spells out very clearly how despicable global government has become.

It is how they run their parliament. They will readily resort to violence.

That is a pack of lies being used as false propaganda on behalf of the Russian aggressors. You ae serving as a mouthpiece for a criminal Putin regime in Russia. Yanukovich’s thigs included snipers from Putin’s government who committed mass murder against the protestors, and this after the Yanukovich regime had been abducting protestors and political enemies to make them disappear. The protests were provoked by the criminal actions of Yanukovich and his Russian backers.

The Russians are still balls to the wall crazy.

Conquest is in their nature, and they have effective and ruthless leadership.

Reagan pointed short range missiles and Star Wars at them, Kennedy blockaded Cuba, and since the Berlin wall fell, we have done nothing except send them money.

Enjoy the free ride Putin, nothing lasts forever.
