Pro-Russians Storm Ukraine Government Buildings

(KIEV, Ukraine) — Crowds of pro-Russian demonstrators stormed government buildings Sunday in two major cities in eastern Ukraine, where secessionist sentiment has sparked frequent protests since Ukraine’s Russia-friendly president was ousted in February.

In Luhansk, 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of the Russian border, hundreds of people surrounded the local headquarters of the security service and later scaled the facade to plant a Russian flag on the roof.

In Donetsk, to the southwest, a large group of people surged into the provincial government building and smashed windows. A gathering of several hundred, many of them waving Russian flags, then listened to speeches delivered from a balcony emblazoned with a banner reading “Donetsk Republic.”

Eastern Ukraine was the heartland of support for Viktor Yanukovych, the president who fled to Russia in February after months of protests. About half of the region’s residents are ethnic Russians, many of whom believe Ukraine’s acting authorities are Ukrainian nationalists who will oppress Russians.

Ukraine’s interim authorities deny they are infringing the rights of the ethnic Russian population and accuse Moscow of trying to sow instability. Russia has moved large contingents of troops to areas near the Ukrainian border, and speculation is strong that unrest in eastern Ukraine could be used as a pretext for a Russian incursion.

There’s plenty of space for Russian speaking Ukrainians. My wife, like the majority of Ukrainians, grew up speaking Russian and didn’t know Ukrainian all that well until she had formal training in school. And this wasn’t in the east, it’s central Ukraine (Vinnitsya Oblast.) All this talk about Russian speakers is crap.

A bridge is in the works. If you look at satellite photos, you see that some preliminary soil preparation has been done. The project is stalled, no doubt it will be unstalled soon. No doubt the Vladivostok LNG terminal and South Stream pipeline will be accelerated as well.

Russia has gamed this to the death, believe that. We can stop this process at any time by having a truce — Ukraine becomes decentralized and no NATO/EU. Otherwise Russia will continue to cause problems for us. This is the offer they are making.

Watch how Crimea’s economy get pumped up as enticement.

BTW, Russia’s strategy will be to occupy any areas before we do. Attempting to “send troops” to Ukraine will likely provoke preemptive sizing of parts Eastern Ukraine, ala Crimea. If we are ready for that, fine. But understand that is what NATO troops in UKraine will cause.

Russian knows that no one dares fire first, so its a classic cult of the offensive motivated strategy. They will leave most of Ukraine alone, they don’t want the poor Western area where the people hate them anyway. The EU will be saddled with that turkey.

All this could have avoided by waiting for the next election on May 25th to rid of Yanukovych.

Good job State Dept.

If we want to have a real democracy in a country like Ukraine , we have to accept a long term battle against Russian backed parties, who will always have support from a large number of Ukrainians, both for cultural reasons and purely political(ie the opposition will always accept Russian help in some form). We can’t throw a tantrum and knock over the chessboard when Russia wins an exchange. Remember, this Yanukovych clown already got booted out of office once, no doubt it could happen again. The reason he came back is because the faction that we backed were worse.

We got to up our game and get our pawns to do at least as good of a job as a corrupt “ex” communist stooge or we will lose elections. If that happens, wait till the next election, don’t try to bring down a legitimate government that won the election by “protests.” Imagine if that happened in America today? No matter who did it, large numbers of people would not accept the gov’t as legitimate. We can just pretend that Ukraine doesn’t work the same way. The irony of “pro-”democracy” forces behaving like this is apparent to everyone but our leaders.

What if this is Soros and Putin working together to create a pretext for Russia to subjugate Ukraine? It is quite possible, as many belive that Soros worked for the KGB and now works for Russian intel.

Well, Soros has developed a pretty good cover, he's wanted for a number of serious crimes in the Russian Federation, and authorities there have issued several international arrest warrants for him.

Of course he receives protection from the US and European nations despite Interpol's agreements with the Russian Federation.

It would be easy to test your theory, simply turn Soros over to Russian authorities, and if he magically beats the rap, he's the agent you propose he is.

If he goes to prison, then he's not the Russian plant you suspect, and a bad guy goes down.

You’re so smitten with your Putin. Are you hoping he’ll call you up on the phone and talk to you for a while tonight?

Boy, did I just get a history lesson on Ukraine today
I have a friend who returned, got his story from where he lived, thought he would have a good grasp on things since he lives there for 12 years now
but, just chatted with a lady friend from Odessa, she sent me to soem links...
WOW...
that place is all messed up
and the claims that there are Nazi sympathizers from western Ukraine? it’s true, very true, people who organize themselves after Stepan Bandera, a freedom fighter from WWII, the Nazis allowed him to rabble rouse for a while, then threw him in jail, then formed SS brigades using his reputation in soem ways telling Ukrainians they would get freedom from Stalin through them
Anyways, if you read OUN UNSO, those names are from WWI, they are using the historical names of the fighters to unite today’s radicals, highly anti-semitic, anti-Russian, who shot at a LOT of people recently
The whole place is corrupt more than a Tiajuana cartel with bi-polar disease

check my previous links
The Bandera supporters joined the SS and fought in Poland, also, against the Soviets, but Bandera supporters also hated immigrants of any kind, poles, russian, whoever

I never knew the Ukrainian thing could be as messed up as Northern Ireland
