Iowa Senate: Braley (D) 41%, Jacobs (R) 38%

Democratic Congressman Bruce Braley holds a slight lead over his three top Republican challengers in Rasmussen Reports’ first look at the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Iowa.

A new statewide telephone survey of Likely Iowa Voters finds Braley with a 41% to 38% lead over businessman Mark Jacobs. He leads State Senator Joni Ernst 40% to 37% and runs four points ahead – 40% to 36% – of former U.S. Attorney Matt Whitaker. Braley posts a 13-point lead – 44% to 31% – over another GOP contender, conservative talk show host Sam Clovis.

The survey of 750 Likely Voters in Iowa was conducted on March 24-25, 2014 by Rasmussen Reports...

While really too small a difference to count, that 3-point spread for Ernst is actually better than is Braley’s, because the percent backing the incumbent party is lower.

And of course she just got Palin’s support yesterday.

Check out her ad on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9Y24MFOfFU

It had about 110,000 views yesterday and will easily cross 300k today.

Reading the comments under the video, it’s clear that liberals have no sense of humor as well.

Well to put this in context, Braley is Harkin’s handpicked successor, has not primary, several million in the bank, and is a three term congressman Just weeks ago he was ahead by 10+ percent.

As noted, this is BEFORE the farmer gaffe by Braley. Keep in mind that except for Jacobs, all the others have been struggling with funds and name recognition, not to mention there are 4 major and 2 minor candidates in the race. Until yesterday the GOP electorate was barely engaged in this race.

These are great numbers indeed.

A couple months ago when Jacobs was interviewed by Simon Conway, he DANCED all over the place when posed a simple question: When (not if) a “clean” bill to raise the debt ceiling comes to the floor of the Senate, how would a Senator Mark Jacobs vote? Would you vote YES or NO to raise the debt ceiling with NO accompanying spending cuts and NO other concessions from Democrats?

When Jacobs kept dancing around the question by reading from his talking points, Conway stated the question no less than three times. Jacobs refused to answer.

Mark Jacobs is a spineless politician.

Conventional campaign wisdom is that an incumbent (and given this is Harken’s seat the Dem is considered the incumbent) is in trouble if he’s pulling less than 50%.

Months still to go in the campaign season, but reasonable predictions would say that there are a LOT of environmental factors (like the continuing problems with Obamacare, more of which will rise to prominence between now and the election) that will work for the GOP and against the Dems ...

This idiot just touted his endorsement from Liz Warren to change the subject.

Dukakis won Iowa. Only Bush in 2004 won Iowa.

It is funny how the Democrats think that Steve King offending elitists and illegals from outside of Iowa is going to hurt him politically.

Braley is an out-of-touch ultraleft elitist who just insulted a large percent of the population of Iowa. Barring a disastrous opponent on the GOP side, he will lose.

It will probably hurt them with higher GOP turnout in the House races. They will have less chance of competing for Latham’s seat.
