SEATTLE The leading proponent of a $15 an hour minimum wage in Seattle was challenged face-to-face today. Kshama Sawant engaged with small businesses owners worried about their survival. The impromptu meeting came after a City Council briefing on the implications of raising the minimum wage 63 percent, from $9.32 an hour to $15.
Despite all the rhetoric I'd like to understand the facts of what these other cities do and how they define the various terms that they use in the minimum wage ordinances, said Council President Tim Burgess at the briefing.
My argument here is there's just not enough, said Thomas Mason of the current minimum wage. I mean I'm barely scraping by. I'm lucky if I pay my phone bill.

The socialist is learning.
Yes, she is learning. She will be learning toward proposing that the government just take the SBO/Worker suffering thing out of the picture and just implement a government “wage tax” on everything to the consumer, leaving the “worker” and SBO satisfied.
IOW she will come to the final solution, tax the hell out of the citizen taxpayer who cannot fight back.
Effing government; it’s all they know how to do.
Much like her swami in the white hut she has never run a business or owns one, it has no effect on her
It doesn’t matter if you steal someone’s money using laws or by breaking into their home. Either way, you’re a thief. Socialists are thieves, murderers, and miscreants.
She is probably as ignorant about business as the maroons who didn’t know that Drudge has to file and pay estimated taxes quarterly for the current year.
We are indeed being governed by ignorant and incompetent people.
The minimum wage is raw, unadulterated fascism.
IMO they are incompetent on foreign policy.
But even there I’m skeptical. They are trying to destroy the US and are doing a very good job.
I’d rather have the low wage workers learning instead, so they’ll know better then to vote for someone like Sawant in the first place.
I have a better idea....make a law that requires everyone hired to be titled MANAGER.
All the money saved from hiring low level workers will pay for it.
For sure.
Reminds me of a story about a guy asking for a job. He asked what it would pay and the owner said, "I'll pay you what you're worth". The guy responded, "I can't live on that".
Establishments ought to be able to pay the employees what they are worth to them. Some will abuse a bunch of folks and have high turn-overs, but if they want to stay in business, they will meet some sort of 'sliding standard".
It's the politicians who have created the mess with all the promises to get them free stuff or improve their lot through no effort of their own. Let them find out what sinking feels like and a lot will learn the dog-paddle pronto and become decent swimmers down the road.
What do you think she's learning other than to avoid a direct question? The very essence of the issue DOES pit one side versus the other and there's no way to avoid that.
With the great influx of IT professionals from India and surrounding areas, many of whom are Muslims, comes the inevitable negative social consequences which accompany their arrivals. Expect to see much more political involvement from these immigrants in the near future as they begin to transform our society to something more suitable to them but more unsavory to traditional Americans.
Sawant’s playing small ball anyway. If $15.00 an hour is a good thing, then $45.00 will be three time better, and provide not just a barely living wage, but one in which people can buy lots of stuff. I guess Sawant really doesn’t have the gumption to truly follow her convictions. If she did, then each could receive according to their need and each could provide according to their ability, even if that ability was pushing the “Start” button on the automatic espresso machine at Starbucks.
