Pot has been known for decades to be a gateway drug.
It is an issue of supply and demand. They have to go after it before it gets in the country. Wipe out crops in Afganistan, seize shipments. They did it before. They also need to regulate Pharma companies and the ridiculously addictive opiates and other synthetic drugs that cure nothing and are worse than crack. Venezuela is the biggest drug supplier in the world. The rest of the world understands this. Why dont we?

Lycoming County (Williamsport) has had 16 heroin deaths since January 1, 2014.
All ages and classes. Professionals and blue collar.
It’s a horrible epidemic.

Drugs suck. American lives are more important than politics or money.
We need to stop drugs in this country...but that cannot be accomplished by laws...only by rehab and re-education...FAITH.

This is bull crap. I lived in Indiana 30 years ago and in 1975 or 1976, (38-39 years ago), the police in Vanderburgh County, Evansville, busted over 200 suburban kids who were in the heroin subculture after a young couple who was pregnant, were executed by the male victim’s first cousin.
Like this article states the heroin then just like today’s heroin, comes in via the minority gangs and underworld characters in Chicago. Don’t think this is a new phenomenon, or something associated with trends of today. It is there because the demand is there and there are people willing to provide them with the poison they desire.
The only way to slow the flow of heroin would be to do what has needed to be done for decades...lock down the borders.
From my experience interviewing heroin addicts under the age of 40.....they almost universally started on oxy....then when oxy was reformulated so it could not be smoked...they moved to Percocet then heroin.

It’s linked to the abuse of prescription pain killers. As the supply of those has dried up, costs have increased for them on the illegal side. In comes heroin for a cheaper price to desperate addicts and here you go.

Maybe we should end up executing people who are caught dealing. It’s how they handle it in the Asian countries and it sounds effective. It’s the dealers and distributors who keep all this going. As for the addicts, take their kids away until they are sober and stay sober for a number of years, or just end up dead. Just take the kids away. I’m tired of hearing kids suffer in households where the parents love drugs. They don’t love their kids, they love their drugs better.
