Homicide investigators are gathering evidence after a father shoots and kills a teenage boy he found in his daughter's bedroom.

kid wasn’t invited by the owner of the house. and the minor child who did, denied knowing who he was.

i don’t think he’s in as much trouble as you think.

I am a father of three girls, actually. I’m also a trained, experienced infantry Soldier who knows that shit has to get bad for me to start shooting. My daughter making a REAL bad decision doesn’t quite rate a lethal force action.

Given how the first story came out, that she lied and said she didn’t know who he was, etc.—sure, I can understand it, but it doesn’t make any part of it right or good. It’s a damn tragedy, and I’m appalled by all the FReepers dancing on this kid’s grave.

not when the teenage boy is quickly reaching for something when a guy with a gun has a bead on him. and his daughter, whom he believes, has told him she doesn’t know the guy.

if the guy is supposed to trust his daughter then he did when she said she denied knowing who he was.

so the guy had to wait until whatever the kid was reaching for was pointed at or being lunged at him before firing? since when?

i wouldn’t be in their daughter’s room hiding under the bed at 2am. not a problem as far as i am concerned. you provide a way different generalized situation than what actually occurred here.

I haven’t danced a bit.

Just saying if I am holding a gun on you in my home at 2:30am you best mind your manners and follow directions.

Simple as that.

You’re just repeating the family’s alibi. And I doubt this is the first time such a daughter as this has lied to her parents.

that particular case i think the gal acted over the line. if he was breakingin or trying to, the door, or window, shooting through it i’d say okay. knmocking loudly and sounding drunk, i’d keep the gun handy and call 911.if it escalated into trying to break in, then i’d be with her,

...

Good riddance to both bad and stupid rubbish.

Uh-huh. "This man's little girl" made some really bad decisions here, too. Two decided to tango. Would you have made the same statement above if he'd shot his daughter in a rage? If not, why not?

What you say to the kid taking your daughter out:

“You WILL have her home by ten, boy. I’m not afraid to go back to prison.”

Better yet, be cleaning your 12 gage in the living room the first time he comes to your home. Our SIL invited us to a restaurant about halfway between his home and ours, got on his knees to ask for our daughter's hand in marriage. We got lucky with him.

umm you do. that is why people say if you try to get up or move your hands i will take that as a sign you are going to attack me and i will shoot you, do you understand me?

they say this not hoping the person moves, they say it to prevent them from moving and having to shoot. i don’t think you quite get it that the last thing gun owners want to do is shoot people because that’smjust the beginning of things, not the end.

the things’that make the difference’to me are she told her dad she didn’t know him, and dad trust daughter - which people say he should. so he believesher when she says i don’t know the guy. that means he’s NOT INVITED. he’s hiding under her bed at 2 am. he is argumentative. the dad is calling 9-11. the kid quickly reaches for something while a gun is pointed at him in a extremely tense situation.

justified. based’on these facts.

age makes no difference in this scenario. means as much as the age of the dad. or what style car he drives.

i believe they either personally acted like this kid, or they have sons that acted like this guy.

Lol, sounds like I'm about the only one who wasn't there. Everyone else seems to swallow the family's alibi hook, line and sinker.

The claim that the boy "reached for something" is about the weakest self-defense claim there is. All we have is a dead kid and an alibi from the family where he was killed.

saying the guy is justified based on what he knew at the time, isn’t dancing on the kid’s grave. the kid got shot for nothing but’lies and appearing to go for something when a gun wielding homeowner thinks you may have raped hisdughter, as she says she doesn’t know the (uninvited) guy, it is not unreasonable that it turned out he got shot.

you can’t blame the dad for believing his daughter when she says she doesn’t know the guy, when people are saying the dad ought to trust her judgment as to who she invites over.
