It’s not Cornyn vs Cruz. It’s Cornyn vs a Dem.

Cornyn is a member of leadership. He needs to be accountable for that. The Dems have an engaged agenda and message. They stick to it. The GOP doesn’t. That’s why the GOP is losing.

The GOP will continue to lose as long as leadership allows progressive Republicans to attack conservatives and play for Team Dem when needed.

No, the liberal democrat won't be worse. It will be exactly the same as Cornyn voting with Reid to subvert conservatives.

I will NOT vote for liberal republicans.

where did those challengers to Cornyn come from? Who funded them, what organization put them forward? I could never figure this out. I have never seen in clarified and I am really curious about it.

They didn’t just come out of thin air. I might want to run in the primary against Cornyn myself but where would I get the $$$ Where would I go?

I wish we had more knowledge as to who put up Stockman. He just seemed like a lot of somebody’s (who?) money totally wasted. Very strange, very obscure.

It wasn't a lot of money put up by any of the challengers. I doubt they spent one million combined. Probably much less.

It's easy to get on the ballot in Texas.

I did not vote for Cornyn. We voted for Stovall. I was hoping to get Cornyn into a run-off...or at least make it squeaky close to send a message.

I see a lot of people say they will do this or that. I'm not willing to go that far. Regardless of what he has done, he isn't an Arlen Specter type of republican. He's not Snow or some other RINO. If he was, my decision would be different. But....what I have to ask myself is this: Is he SO bad that if my vote was the difference between a dem getting the seat...and perhaps the GOP failing to get the senate....is he so bad that I could live with that and would be proud?

The answer is an obvious no. He's no Ted Cruz for sure...and I was hoping this primary season would get his mind right. However, I think a lot of the bravado I am reading here would be different if the general election was going to be close...and every vote counted to keep Texas from turning partially blue and possibly not getting the senate.

Is making a statement worth the possibility of this state being purple...and giving the democrats hope? Not on your life.

Now the people of KY have a different question before them. There you could actually change the leadership and it would send a clear message. But again, is it worth not gaining the senate if it appears close. Got to think about these things.

There’s an alarming level of denial on this thread.

Cornyn won. Big. When your nearest competitor trails by 50 percentage points, it’s a legitimate “crushing.”

We’re all angry, and we’re all scared. The truth is that our fears aren’t rooted in Texas. Texas is doing fine, and would be doing better without interference by the current administration.

We could oust every current Texas congressman and it wouldn’t make a whit of difference.

Texans’ hands are tied, because the real change that we must have in November must come from patriots in other states.

Yesterday’s primary, other than being the first in the nation, meant very little.

I’ll take someone I agree with 60 percent of the time over someone that votes against my interests all the time. The dems get this- its why we have Obama.

60%? The reality is you’ll take anybody with an (R) behind their name. Even when they refuse to help those hurt by obamacare and they refuse to be an engaged opponent of a middle class crushing amensty.

P.S. Cornhole has just become a big Matt Bevin and Alison Lundergan Grimes supporter all of a sudden.

Cornyn has and will vote with Reid to subvert conservatives. That's all I need to know. He won't get my vote in the general.

I got calls every 15 minutes the last few days. They had 512 area codes. Many said Stockman this and that was terrible, beat women, took dope, type calls. Didn't tell me WHO to vote for, just Sockman was bad. Then I would get another 512 call and it was the wonderful fearless Cornyn to save us all. He spent as much to attack Stockman as yea me.

In my county, Cornyn got 45%, which would have gotten us a run off.

third party = democrat support.

You're right here if course, third party votes are just as deadly as touching the third rail of a railroad line. There simply is no debating that fact.

I must say though, given the absolutely nearly traitorous behavior of the Republican Party as a whole in the last year, I'm just not sure what is the best thing to do, should a truly conservative Republican be defeated in primaries like this. It seems once the primaries are over, if a true conservative hasn't won, then the country has lost already.

So really, it seems to me a valid question to ask, "why even bother to vote in such an election?"

Certainly the pragmatic answer is that there most certainly is a difference, politically speaking, between a Cornyn and his Democratic opponent. That is, on paper. In theory. Based on the party planks and individual statements of each. But here I'm reminded of the old catch phrase, "Talk is cheap"

It's truly action that matters, and what has Cornyn (and GOP-e's like him) actually DONE to advance the conservative agenda? When, in recent history, have they actually stood FOR conservatism instead of just (saying they are) standing against liberalism? The average voter in this country will probably pull the R lever in November, but not for what (most) Republicans have or do STAND for, much less have proposed, but because of what they are not, which are Democrats.

This is a perfect time for the Pubbies to be taking their ideas to the country, ideas for debt reduction (such as increasing domestic energy production, and lowering taxes for everyone) ideas for replacing Obamacare with actual solutions that would work to lower healthcare costs (such as making HSA's more accessible and tort reform), and ways to encourage economic growth (such as eliminating needless regulations on businesses). They all SAY these things, but they never actually TRY to DO them.

It's very discouraging, and this is why I'm not too keen on a Republican victory this November, if it's a victory based on the public distaste for the status quo. That would not be constructive, no matter how significant (in terms of numbers) the victory. That would be just business as usual in Washington, while the country continues it's self inflicted slide into fiscal death via backroom deals and pork belly spending. Just with an "R" in front of its name.

It's not a crushing victory when 41% of the electorate voted for anybody but Cornyn.

Cornyn is in leadership. It’s his job to reign in the progressive Republicans and keep the GOP on message. That he chooses not to do that should be a terminable offense.

Are you saying that 41% didn't vote for anyone but Cornyn?

Amazing how many people will cut their nose off to spite their face.

There’s no form of treachery worse than putting Democrats into office because throwing a hissy fit feels so good.
