President Obama will announce a $200 million commitment from nine foundations Thursday afternoon to bolster the lives of young men and boys of color. The funding is part of a larger initiative from the White House to bring private businesses, non-profits and local governments together to intervene in key moments in the lives of young black and Hispanic men to ensure they stay in school and eventually train for and get good jobs. As Yahoo News first reported, the cause will be a major focus of Obama’s—and the first lady’s—even after he leaves office. "I think it’s something that's deeply personal to the president and first lady,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president and the Obamas’ closest friend from Chicago. “I’m sure their commitment to this initiative will be a lifelong commitment. This is not something they simply want to do while he’s in office — it will continue.” The president personally ordered his senior staff to come up with this new “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative in the wake of the shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin two years ago. Obama—who was criticized by civil rights leaders for avoiding race-based initiatives and conversations while in office—was deeply moved by Martin’s death, and tasked his staff with creating a holistic, research-based approach to helping young minority boys succeed and avoid violence.

Mrs USC and I are involved in them, they're a wonderful organization! We've sponsored kids, mentored others and have seen first hand the impact of BBBS on the lives of inner city kids. We've seen so many graduate high school, often with honors, and head off to college.
BBBS is PRIVATELY funded through individuals and business organizations. They're incredibly efficient with the money they get (I KNOW the Chicago area BBBS is) and they make a real difference in these kids lives.
What a great gig. You create your own money funnel. Sweet!

Imagine if instead initiating a worthless program that will do nothing to stop the carnage in the black sections of most American cities, Obama told them to work hard, stay out of trouble, study hard in school, and quit blaming whitey for their problems. Oh, and told them to pull up their pants. What are the chances he’d make that speech? I suppose about the same chances as me being made King of Australia.

At least it is not with taxpayer money. I thought at first it was but it is private funding. Obama is just getting the face time.
When the rejected, young White male, is forced to start his own service company and begins to become successful...the government will tax him out of business for succeeding due to White priviledge.
Wait, what about his own actual brothers and other relatives? Like the brother living in shack in Africa. Or the aunt in the housing project outside Boston.
Gee, will this put him contrary to Spike Lee, whose raging hate of white people has him vilifying the upgrading of Brooklyn and environs because people who actually care about their neighborhoods have moved back in?

How black do you need to be to qualify? Half, quarter..or hispanic? Who will decide what color a candidate is? Maybe like gender..race should become self identified. Bill Clinton called himself black...
This will be a program to fix a problem that govt created with welfare and the destruction of the black..and poor families. The fact that it will be based on race is ridiculous because the same problem is invading all races in the country. Grow up with a single poor Mom and no Dad and your chances in life are pretty limited.
I was hired to train 20 young black men to do asbestos work back a few years ago. It was a federal/state funded program put together by Julia Carson the local black congressperson at the time. After lunch the first day I had already lost 5 of the 20 and 10 came back late because they had met some of their homeys and had stopped to chat. By the next morning 4 of that 10 were gone. We were now down to 11 of the original 20. By the end of the class we were down to 6. Of those 6 only 2 picked up their medical exam voucher and neither of them ever ever returned.
Bottom line I was paid very handsomely to train these young men, at taxpayer expense, for $20+ /jobs that were waiting for them. And not one ever did a second of work on those jobs. Those jobs were eventually performed by crews from Nicaraugra. Even Andre Carson, Miss Julia’s grandson and heir to her seat, told me he would never do it again because it was a waste of money.
More Ministry of Love bible interpretations where scripture means whatever they want it to mean. I guarantee no one involved with this initiative even knows the context of that phrase. Not one.
I love the phrase My Brother’s Keeper. Spoken by a man who had just killed his brother.
