That's why it's pretty chilling to hear Vladimir Putin hurling accusations at the West and pointing out that what's going on is identical to what went on when communism was established and religion was completely expunged from the Soviet Union.
Between 1917 and 1937, almost a quarter of a million Christians were executed, and churches that survived destruction were converted into things like museums of atheism. Russian President Putin, who hasn't been shy about expressing his disapproval of homosexuality and has banned what he defined as "homosexual propaganda," had this to say:

Speaking to his people in the state of the nation address delivered at the end of last year, the Russian president defended traditional values, pointed out the moral bankruptcy of the West, and maintained that conservatism, both religious and societal, is what prevents what he defined as worldwide "chaotic darkness."
Quite the opposite of what goes on in America, where these days the only form of permissible discrimination involves the denigration of conservatives and people of faith, in Russia, it's now a criminal offense to "insult" the religious sensibilities of believers.

Isn’t that the truth. Some of our folks hear KGB, and automatically go into defense mode. I can understand it. I think we need to move beyond that a bit. We need Russia, and it needs us. Don’t go blindly to be sure, but there’s a storm a brewing, and we need Russian in our camp.

Indeed. 2 + 2 will always equal 4 regardless of who says it and when it comes to the church and the importance of the natural family, Putin has declared(at least in this case) something as truthful as 2 + 2 = 4.
Exactly. For all his faults, I believe Putin loves the nation he serves as president and is supporting policies that he thinks are in his nation’s best interest in the long run. Can we say the same about our current leader?
Indeed. You statement turned out to be prophetic. 1983’s looking awfully good to me right now. After all, Reagan was in the WH. Religious freedom existed and nobody in the public eye was even talking about redefining marriage and legally punishing those didn’t go along with that idea.
I think Putin is pulling Obama’s yin-yang. He enjoys toying with the Muslim. And does it with pleasure, knowing it drives Obama up the wall. He screwed Obama in Syria. The world watched as our feckless Obama drew line after line in the sand, then lied about it to the world, tried to redefine reality and here we are again. He was baptised, as a baby, in secret - by his mother. He has on him at al times, a cross given to him by his mother on a trip to Jerusalem as a child. He has spported the restoration of the church as the foundaton of “Mother Russia” = over 25,000 cathedrals/churchs have been restored...He is the leading world leader calling for help to stop the Christian killings going on and the the leader in stopping the endoctrination of youth by the gays - etc.
