Michelle Obama is getting a new ally in her campaign to get kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.
The first lady was expected to announce Thursday that the Subway sandwich chain will spend $41 million over three years to encourage finicky young eaters to eat more food that comes out of the ground or grows on trees. The announcement was being made at a Subway shop near the White House.
Subway will only offer a kids' menu that mirrors federal standards for school lunches. That includes offering apples on the side and low-fat or nonfat plain milk or water as a default beverage....

I went to Subway one time. Ordered a roast beef. Got the near-vegan variety. I’ve never been back.

These elitists with pizza chefs flow in from Chicago don’t realize that for the middle class, fast food restaurant meals are a treat, not a way of life
Why go to Subway and pay retail price for a tiny bag of apple slices coated with artificial preservative, and a carton of milk that looks like school lunch, plus a big bun with a tiny piece of meat?
Seriously? What fun is that? If we wanna eat salad we just stay home
I may not be able to give up SubWay entirely but will definitely cut back,
I will have moochelle’s scowling mug and big behind in my mind every time I even think of going to Subway

used to enjoy homemade subs, guess we need to get back in the habit
My daughter used to work there she said they put one scoop of tuna and 20 scoops of Mayo to make a batch. It was disgusting.

You can still buy you kid a 6” meatball sub for cheap money. I’ve got nothing against fast food joints offering healthier choices. As I get older and fatter, I’ve had to stop going to fast food places because they don’t offer what I need.
The recent article here documenting MacDonald’s slight decline during 2013 and the movement of consumers to chains that offer more choices demonstrates a shift in demand.
We don’t need Michelle Obama to solve this problem. The market will take care of itself. Even Buffalo Wild Wings is serving a decent grilled chicken Caesar salad in my area.
So subway used the ad campaign for many years that if you ate enough of their product, you too could look thin like Jared or whatever his name was. I guess this new campaign infers that now, if you eat their product, you too can look like Moosechelle! Run Away! Run Away!!!
We’ve got some terrific sub and sandwich shops all around us which offer some great choices. In a pinch, I’ll even grab a sandwich at Dunkin Donuts. I’ve never cared for Subway, always thought is was bland and the bread pretty dry.
